Spent the past month in Greece ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ท on holiday and visiting family. But surprised to see so many reminders of Aus (Eucalypts) planted on so many islands! (could they be contributing to the wildfires Greece is being ravaged by? So many questions!)

Late Pleistocene emergence of an anthropogenic fire regime in Australiaโ€™s tropical savannahs - Nature Geoscience A shift towards more-frequent, less-intense fires in Australia began about 11,000โ€‰years ago due to management by Indigenous societies, according to charcoal and stable polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon ...

Geochemical proof that Aboriginal Australians have been changing landscape-scale fire regimes (cooler, less-intense fires) for at least 11,000 years, and probably much longer

Happy World Bee Day! ๐Ÿ

This year's theme, "Bee inspired by nature to nourish us all", highlights the critical roles bees and other pollinators play in agrifood systems and ecosystem health.

Here's a Lipotriches bee buzz-pollinating a Dianella flower (Wangal land).

Illustration of methods used to assessed fuel characteristics (moisture, architecture, chemistry and mass) across a range of scales from individual plant organs or excised parts to communities and landscapes. Remote sensing, field measurements, and laboratory work are each suited to assessment of fuel characteristics at different but overlapping portions of this range, thereby creating opportunities to synthesize the โ€œtop-downโ€ and โ€œbottom-upโ€ approaches to understanding flammability. Art drawn by by Jagoba Malumbres-Olarte.
