It's eyes are fairly close together (for a stalk-eyed fly, anyway), the distance between the eyes isn't much greater than the width of the abdomen. The fly on the right is facing left; it's eyes are very wide apart, the distance between them is roughly equal to the length of the entire body. The fly on the left is dark overall; the one on the right has dark eyes, head, and thorax, the legs and eye stalks are yellowish and the abdomen is reddish orange.
The fly on the left is one of two species of stalk-eyed flies in North America.
They do not see eye to eye with their more recognizable relatives from around the world.
