It’s crazy that there are three worse people than Hulk Hogan who were involved with WrestleMania 4 & 5 who are still alive.

“Alligator Alcatraz” is a fun moniker for that terrible place but it allows us to too easily talk about it without acknowledging fully what it is. It’s “the American concentration camp in the Everglades.” There is nothing fun about that.

Portrait of My Father as Tatooine A man with two sons sometimes forgets the shape of flame. Sometimes forgets to warn of the danger of downed wires. He struggles to describe loneliness, to know how much he should reveal about how the ground has shifted, was always shifting. He knows there are adventures and there are movies about adventures. There are Saturdays and the idea of Saturdays. He is always remembering advice he should have given—how to extinguish a campfire, never to spit into the wind, why a triangle is the strongest shape, how to keep fingers away from blade, never to shoot an arrow straight up into the air. He sees himself in his sons but does not recognize the sound of broken glass. These are not the days he was looking for. The world arranges itself into visits and the space between: a dry lakebed at dusk, the crushed, papery skull of a heron, a burned spot in the sand— the man's fears made tangible, his dreams all of the same thirsty planet.

My kids are on Spring Break so today we went to the GR Public Museum and I saw this taxidermy display & thought about how much I miss some things I gave up 5 years ago, when we found out we were having twins. For the best I know, & it was a lot of work, but I miss running a litmag.

Sometimes faint, far, then suddenly, close, just beyond the screened door, as if someone there squats in the dark honing his wares against my threshold. Half steel wire, half metal wing, nothing and anything might make this noise of saws and rasps, a creaking and groaning of bone-growth, or body-death, marriages of rust, or ore abraded. Tonight, something bows that should not bend. Something stiffens that should slide. Something, loose and not right, rakes or forges itself all night.

I’m not at AWP this year so instead of a photo of me with my favorite writers at some cool place in LA, here’s a selfie of me and the megasloth that hangs out near my camp in Fallout 76.

I was just thinking today that someone could rent a table at the bookfair and set up a cheap burrito pop up from 11am-2:30pm and rake in some big cash.

I see all of you with your fancy photos and posts about traveling to AWP in LA today. I’m not envious at all, but tonight I ate a bowl of leftover rice and when I went back for more discovered it was moldy. Yeah. Not envious.

I am not going to miss the opportunity to eat in the bookfair again this year. No way.

I’m not at AWP in LA this year but here is my unsolicited advice: no there will not be food available at that reading later so you should just stop now and eat something.
