That colour would really show the mud! Only for very sedate rides...
08.02.2026 10:21 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0She is magnificent.
My absolute favourite moment has to be Bernard Hill speaking "where is the horse and the rider?" with the terrified boys being armed for war. A perfect meshing of the original Old English poem, Tolkien's adaptation, echoes of WW1, and cinema. So many layers. So powerful.
Marathon concluded! What a day...

Where is the horse and rider....
My knees are definitely feeling it now.
We've stopped for supper as the wolf's head is about to ram Minas Tirith
Two down.
Just the Return of the King to go.
The Two Towers still seems a total masterpiece to me. Bernard Hill is peerless.
I've spent years shelving and cataloguing various issues of Treitel's Law of Contract and didn't know either of these facts. Something to think of every time I encounter it from now on.

07.02.2026 10:36 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0We are currently pausing for second breakfast.
There will be elevenses, luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner and supper.
And taters.

What film series would people like to watch for a rainy day film marathon?
Old Man dressed as hobbit (mine)

Indeed! And Tolkien first read chapters of LotR jere in Magdalen, to his friend CS Lewis who encouraged him to publish.
Also, Magdalen's Fellows' Garden is clearly Lothlorien.

A big crowd gathering in the Magdalen auditorium for our Lord of the Rings marathon. All three movies, extended versions, with hobbit meals and a special.mystery guest...
Real sense of anticipation.
Not sure how I'll feel by 10pm.
