27.05.2025 07:07 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Members may be aware of the recent supreme court ruling about equalities law in relation to trans people. Itβs not yet clear what the implications of the ruling will be, but we want to reassure members that as a branch we stand in absolute solidarity with trans staff and students at the university. We are committed to defending our members from any attacks on trans rights, whether they come from the government or from management. Weβre in contact with UCU regional about the issue and will be working hard to understand the significance of the ruling and how best to respond to it locally, but please do get in touch if you have any immediate concerns and/or would like to be involved with organising a response. Weβd also encourage all our members to contact their MPs to express any concerns you may have concern about this ruling. Guidance for writing to your MP, along with additional resources for actions you can take immediately, along with a list of upcoming protests in Winchester and across the UK is available at: https://whatthetrans.com/compilation-of-protests-against-the-supreme-court/ . Details of local action can be found here: https://whatthetrans.com/compilation-of-protests-against-the-supreme-court/ - itβs Saturday 3rd May, 10:45 starting in Abbey Gardens

The first PM born in the NWT.

10.03.2025 09:10 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The photograph is a black-and-white portrait of a person dressed in a military uniform, likely from the early 20th century, possibly around the time of World War I. The individual is wearing a peaked cap adorned with a badge that appears to feature a maple leaf, suggesting a connection to Canadian forces. The uniform includes a buttoned jacket with a high collar and pockets, and the person has a sergeant's stripe on the sleeve, indicating a non-commissioned officer rank. The chest of the uniform is decorated with several medals and ribbons, signifying military honors or campaigns. Prominently displayed is a large medal with a profile relief, possibly a Victoria Cross or another significant award, hanging from a ribbon. The background is plain and faded, typical of formal studio portraits from that era, which helps to focus attention on the subject's attire and decorations. The overall tone of the image is somber and dignified, reflecting the historical context of military service.
On this day in 1891, Francis Pegahmagabow was born in on the Shawanaga First Nation.
He was one of the most effective snipers of the First World War and a highly decorated soldier.
He became an activist later in life.
