Yeah, and that still might not be enough to keep the boat afloat. LoR fell partially because of its monetization scene and this is incredibly similar.

When the game is free, you need to compel people to the shop, and cosmetics are more like a tip jar.

Having full access to everything seems like one of those obvious things every player wants, but there's a reason game devs take player input with a grain of salt.

Yeah, immediately conceding is a bad solution. Still haven't played a real game yet and now you need to parse through the entire cardpool before queuing since everyone else can also do that.

If there's an advantage to not having a full card pool immediately, its keeping the game simple for newbies

I can get that. It's the type of decision that needed to be made before set 1.

Though, from the outside, I feel like the exact control of the spirit deck is part of why stuff can devolve into good stuff. Really easy to just run best card in most elements.

I really hate online simulators as is. I hate online ladders and digital cards feel unnatural, so I have a low tolerance for small sim flaws. Throwing you into an open ladder game before experiencing a full game is also pretty unforgivable for my temperament.

Sounds like a mild nuance in paper. Kinda wish taking damage was a random spirit, weird spot to have to make a choice in terms of flow.

My beef is stuff like "hold click and drag Elestral, then pick a zone, then pick mode, then enchant, etc". Most actions in the sim could be merged or cut

I don't get why you wouldn't just do an entire scripted game. Even if things were explained well, the tutorial doesn't even sell you on the gameplay. All I got was "this is tedious" cause of how input-heavy basic actions were.

I immediately quit out mid match and uninstalled

Okay yeah. That Elestrals Clash tutorial is bad bad. Game itself was impressive when it was a fan sim of Pixelborn, but it just looks rough and feels clunky by professional standards. Everything takes too many clicks, and the tutorial doesn't give you a good idea of the game

Game's cheaper to 'stay in'. Class system means only 1-ish set per year matter. Also easy to just buy into a card for cheap and it just spike up temporarily cause of legacy support

Yeah. Game just is expensive. Kind of suffering from success problem atm. They've been trying to reprint the highest end stuff steadily and promised even more in the fall set.

Initial cost is high, but expensive cards are transferable staples that tend to last near forever.

Yes, the hand as resource comment maps way better to FaB. Math in FaB is super tight so that a hand of 4 represents roughly 12+ value (attack/block), and synergy carries you past that. Cards are literally resources and actions

But, unlike Elestrals, life isn't the resource. You can get stuck in a loop of blocking out forever, but it's usually at 3 or less life and can be planned around. You can also break it depending on what happens.

Generally yes. The standard format has a lot of life as a cushion, and you draw up to hand size every turn cycle. You see most of your deck every game. It's a bit like poker.

Blocking out = Folding and saving life. Taking damage = calling/raising on how much value you can get compared to opp

Will say for FaB, disruption is less back breaking when the game has next to no permanent by default. The most infamous "floodgate" only lasts a couple turns

If someone is stopping you from playing the game, it usually just means you block out to conserve life and wait to draw your next hand.

Ascend turbo is an obvious yugioh answer to good stuff/5s being objectively better when ascend has the same flaws as tribute. Same with those Liths

Def keeping my eyes peeled on that zone locker. If ygo has told us anything about it, the mechanic is either a waste of text or back breaking non fun

I didn't even try Elestrals cause of that. Everything reads a little too close to Yu-Gi-Oh in all the wrong ways. They seem to be even going through all the same design mistakes caused by having similar core systems

Hell, I'd even say they are squandering the parts of their game that are different

Nearby shop, TTD Frankfort, held a #fabtcg 5k! It was a pretty good time for me. Went 6-0 on Slippy, the only undefeated. Only had 1 close game in the mirror, stomped everyone else otherwise. Happy to be making rent today.

Probably not doing a #fabtcg US Nationals ever again. Three times so far and my favorite one was the one I didn't do any main events in. Forcing us to do a 2 format event when the new set is less than a week old is a joke.

New system will require more points (most point gain has been by heroes in their 1st year). Otherwise, we're right back to pre-HVY points and going to experience bloat again. Maybe once heroes reach 2 years old it'll round back to extremely fast, but I'm uncertain. Hire that stats guy
