My PI is investigating whether the university can do anything differently, and if nothing changes, I will ask the MRC grant officer what I can do! I am hoping it's a miscommunication...

I hope that's what's happening... the PI would quite like to hire me directly but the department prevents this from happening

I should add that the PI is on my side and would quite like to hire me directly but the department prevents this for some reason and asks for the post to be advertised

09.12.2025 15:41 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

so he simply follows what they told him. I asked him to investigate whether there is any way around it... it is more that the department rules are so that postdocs are not credited for their work. To ask the union and UK research integrity office is a good idea!

I don't think there is any ill will from the PI himself, he has been very supportive! I think he would really have liked to hire me directly but HR says it is against the rules.

I am listed by name on the grant as a researcher co-lead/postdoctoral researcher though...

I will try to figure out more... maybe this is a country-specific thing, or university-specific

I don't want to lie, I am so thoroughly fed up today with universities and the myriad ways they exploit your work, try to underpay you, and put obstacles in your way at every point. if anyone has any idea what I should do at this point, my DMs are open!

according to UKRI, researcher co-lead is exactly for people like me who are postdocs who did lots of work and can be employed on the grant up to 100%FTE.

if my actual and full name is on the staff breakdown of the grant which was awarded, is this something they can even do? This is how I appear on the grant. I remember they also asked for my CV to cost me on the grant, etc. My name was in their worktribe costing tool.

09.12.2025 13:37 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

this seems crazy to me since i wrote two grant applications (stage 1 and 2), and the PI went over it (as well as a rebuttal to reviewers, corresponding with HR on the costing, getting quotes for items put on the grant) and now it's like I wasn't even there

09.12.2025 13:37 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

now the PI sent me an email that he cannot promise me the job as much as he would like to and they need to freely advertise the position so I would be in free competition with anyone else who applies for the postdoc. he also said i would not have to do any further work on the project for now.

anyone got any advice on the following situation? I wrote and did a big chunk of the admin for a large MRC grant which also also awarded. I am named in the Staff breakdown on the grant as "researcher co-lead" with 100%FTE, and I am mentioned by name as "postdoctoral researcher Maria Niedernhuber"

looks like we just got a big grant! say hello to employment! future me will not have to worry about a job! yessss

I am super thrilled to announce that I have been awarded an @erc.europa.eu Consolidator Grant to build novel interventions for #OCD. The plan is to exploit recent insights from computational neuroscience and closely work together with people with lived experience of OCD to create novel treatments.

or the effect correlated with the extent to which people with BPD experience improvements in interpersonal relationships more than other symptoms regardless of therapy (which apparently happens to a lesser extent than other symptoms such as feelings of emptiness) that would be huge

09.12.2025 11:10 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

this would be a really interesting finding! also perhaps to compare different therapies, since some aim at improving interpersonal relationships more than others if I understand it correctly. if that prediction held specifically for MBT or DBT, or could distinguish therapies,

wait... we didn't think you'd find your way out to post that?

this sounds really concerning! i hope this fades soon!

08.12.2025 21:19 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Do you think that people with BPD who received DBT for a long time would show the same pattern in predicting future actions of others, or would treatment reduce this effect?

08.12.2025 16:00 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

super interesting! This is probably not an outcome you would expect with autistic participants, I believe? Interpersonal instability in BPD seems to be a core characteristic which sets the condition apart from others

The realities and needs of children living with ADHD The new President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, Simon Wessely, recently signalled his concerns about overmedicalisation in children. In an interview with The Times newspaper in the UK, he sai...

www.thelancet.com/journals/lan... this is one of the leads of the review β€œIt's the same with Ritalin. It's probably over-prescribed, but it's also under-prescribed because we don't have good enough services.”

ADHD: overdiagnosis or opportunity? - PubMed ADHD: overdiagnosis or opportunity?

Wes Streeting can commission a review but he cannot commission an outcome. I'd be surprised if the outcome of the review will be anywhere near what's written in that article. The ADHD taskforce commissioned by the NHS found evidence for underdiagnosis recently pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40998710/

so for any already diagnosed person, you can at best have another medical opinion which contradicts the original diagnosis.

08.12.2025 11:46 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

there are some Go-NoGo-type cognitive tests but they are an additional element and do not replace the interview. if a patient responds well to ADHD treatment, that is the best evidence we have that the person has ADHD.

08.12.2025 11:46 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

the biggest challenge is that a diagnosis is a clinical opinion based on an interview (and diagnostic criteria from an ever-changing diagnostic manual), and there is no unique biomarker to diagnose ADHD.

08.12.2025 11:46 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

then you might have underdiagnosed ADHD in women (where ADHD presents differently) and autistic people (where you could not diagnose both for a long time)
