Quackery with a University Logo: How Bizarre Numerology Offers a Surprisingly Accurate Glimpse of Contemporatory Georgia While the Georgian Dream systematically dismantles the country’s leading universities, it greenlights degrees in “Astrolinguistics” at Bidzina Ivanishvili’s flagship Kutaisi International University.

I do not think I am promising too much if I say that this story will blow your mind -- how esoteric numerology with bizarro claims about Aryan, Chaldeans and Mesopotamia gives you a surprisingly accurate insight of how to understand #Georgia today.

World order, if it is to mean anything, must be upheld properly, not impulsively.
In a time of sharp rhetoric and growing polarization, this is sober, principled statecraft from Amb. Fischer.

Highly recommended reading.

That balance is uncomfortable for many. Interestingly, he both validates the frustration felt by many Georgians and reminds the more impassioned among us that diplomacy is not activism.
States operate through law, institutions, and process.

He makes two points that matter:
🔹Germany is not in the business of “regime change.”
🔹But it is in the business of defending principles, rules, and European commitments.

Peter Fischer - We are not regime change agents, we don't care who governs Georgia

🇬🇪🇩🇪A long read - but worth your time.
In his interview, German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, is refreshingly direct about Georgia’s crisis and Germany’s position.

BRIEF SUMMARY ON THE NEW STAGE OF ASSAULT IN 🇬🇪👇🏻

The Georgian Dream wants to speed-run in a gamble, they know that their medium-term is brittle. They no longer care about any popularity, they only care about subjugation through disorganization, managed poverty, and emigration. 1/

🇬🇪Georgian Dream joins Tehran’s mullahs in celebrating the Islamic Revolution, honoring a request from the Iranian Embassy to light up Tbilisi’s TV tower in the colors of the Iranian flag.
The same regime has killed thousands of its own people.
This is what GD chooses to support.

Georgia, the most persistent civic resistance in contemporary Europe, needs one key ingredient — a viable political alternative. In the absence of a dominant, that means some form of unity among democratic parties.

Such an alternative would swing the process in several ways: 🧵

The West cannot hide behind the OSCE’s Moscow Mechanism. By the time reports are written, the damage will already be done. Fact-finding is not a response strategy. Delay now means accepting repression as the new normal.

Western governments now have a choice. Either respond with real political and economic consequences, or accept responsibility for enabling the criminalization of opposition in Georgia. Statements of concern are no longer enough.

This trial is designed to intimidate far beyond the defendants. It tells people, activists and journalists that political participation now carries massive criminal risk. This is how pluralism is dismantled without banning elections.

Zurab Japaridze cut through the fiction. This case is not about “sabotage.” It is political retaliation against those opposing Bidzina Ivanishvili, who is already sanctioned by the United States.

Giorgi Vashadze stated the obvious but devastating truth: “You cannot defend yourself if you do not know what you are accused of.” That alone should alarm any system claiming adherence to the rule of law.

The scale is telling. The indictment runs to 40 volumes. Yet Nika Gvaramia told the court that only two sentences even mention him.
No concrete acts. No individualized accusations. Just mass prosecution by association.

Those on trial are Mikheil Saakashvili, Giorgi Vashadze, Nika Gvaramia, Nika Melia, Zurab Japaridze, Elene Khoshtaria, Mamuka Khazaradze, and Badri Japaridze. Different parties.
Different political roles.
One courtroom. One message: opposition itself is the crime.

The so-called evidence reportedly consists of public speeches, protest activity and media appearances. In other words, lawful political activity reframed as a criminal conspiracy. Potential sentences reach 15 years.

🇬🇪Georgia has entered a new phase of political repression. A mass “Opposition Silencing Trial” is now underway in Tbilisi, targeting leading opposition figures in a single, collective prosecution that Georgian Dream brands as a “sabotage case.” 1/10

🇬🇪Georgia is sliding into a legal dictatorship. Not overnight. Step by step. Each protest is met with a new tailored law.
Each law designed to exhaust, criminalize, and isolate society until resistance itself becomes illegal.
Here is how the latest law changes everything.

🇬🇪Sanctions work by raising the cost of enabling dictatorship.
For years, backing Georgian Dream had been “good for business” because the cost was close to zero.

That calculation has now changed.

Do you agree that Georgia will never become an EU member as long as Georgian Dream stays in power?
Is GD the most undemocratic and human rights-violating political force in Europe?

This is not a business transaction. It is an attempt to protect himself and shield his wealth from sanctions exposure.

Rukhadze is shitting himself and running for cover.

Facing real UK and EU sanctions risk, Irakli Rukhadze is offloading Imedi TV, GDs main propaganda channel, to a small local proxy, Ilia Mikelaishvili, for USD 370.

The OSCE, the EU, and multiple EU member states all question the legitimacy of Georgia’s one-party rule. International recognition is eroding. Isolation is growing. Georgian Dream is losing its mind over it.
Instead of restoring democratic credibility, Georgian Dream reacts like an insulted child.
