Take the time to develop a short hand for yourself! I hated taking notes but dumping everything down to summarized bullet points made it easy to reference later. Plus writing it down will imprint it in your mind.

"What Moves the Dead" by T. Kingfisher is really quick and snappy but rich with interesting monster physiology.
"God in the Shed" by J-F. Dubeau is slower but solid god psychology.

I'm looking into getting "Don't Let the Forest In" by CG Drews and "The King in Yellow" Robert W. Chambers.
