When I hear about the Texas National Guard arriving in northern states like Illinois and Oregon, I can’t help but imagine old Confederate generals looking down in approval.

By whom? State Police who are mostly MAGA? The State Police would simply say no--they didn't sign up for it. They might arrest Pritzker instead.
Since IL national guard has been federalized, Pritzker has the legal ability to raise the Illinois Reserve Militia, which cannot be federalized.

That said, the chance that Pritzker will actually do this rather than just posture is almost nil

With IL NG federalized, Pritzker already has the unilateral power to raise the Illinois Reserve Militia, pursuant to the Illinois State Guard Act, and obtain a loyal force that way.

Vallas would've had CPD attack the crowd protesting ICE after ICE shot a woman in Brighton Park, gassed onlookers, and then requested "assistance." It means something that Brandon Johnson did not betray us in that moment, and I won't forget it, even tho I've had my gripes with his administration.

They won't hinder ICE in that way because it is likely illegal, and Pritzker is being extremely careful not to escalate the situation, a strategy that so far seems like it has only delayed the inevitable (a Texas National Guard invasion) by a month. Meanwhile ICE is ruining innocent lives

People should not be donating to NPR. There are *plenty* of independent news sources that tell it like it is and do better investigative reporting in these times. NPR is flaccid, complacent and not against authoritarianism
