Had fun going down to the Olympia Zine Fest earlier today~! Attended this workshop where we made little mini-folded zines inspired by tarot cards. Here's the one that I scribbled up. ^_^

Billowslandia Harbor "Ghoulish Beach Fashion" by Ormfrid Vilda Osklund (page 1/3). (1st Panel): A ghost touches Wibbly Lantern's finger as they stand in front of the seaside harbor with the Lanterns Towers behind them. (2nd Panel): the Prumbrill Hen says "odd how they often seem to come up to you before they head out to sea, eh Wibbly?". (3rd Panel): Wibbly silently looks at her finger with a glowing residue left behind. (4th Panel): The ghost waves goodbye. (5th Panel): As the ghost floats off, the Prumbrill Hen says "Safe travels to you, little ghost!" and Wibbly waves goodbye..

(2nd to 5th Panels): The ghost slips below the waves and drifts off into a deep slumber. (6th to 9th Panels): "6 Months Later" opening their eyes, the ghost has become a ghoul who now sees the bright sun filtering down thru the water as they stand on the seafloor with a barnacle affixed to the back of their head.

(3rd Panel): Wibbly Lanterns, sitting on the beach with the bear form of her brother Hinble Lanterns and a resting Prumbrill Hen, points over to the ghoul... silently calling attention of the ghoul to the others. (4th Panel): Hinble and Wibbly listen to the Prumbrill Hen who points out "does that ghoul have a funny hat on or..." (5th Panel): We see a close up of the barnacle on the back of the ghoul's head and the Prumbrill Hen exclaims "Ah!" followed by (on the 6th Panel): "A Giant Barnacle??" (7th Panel: The ghoul continues to walk by while Hinble looks on and Wibbly waves... with the Prumbrill Hen remarking "A very unusual 'HAT'... indeed!".

Here's a new three page short Billowslandia comic that I did up for Summer's issue of Oly Comix Cult's zine with the main theme of "The Beach Episode" and one of the sub-themes being "Barnacle Disease".

Of course the page of my 3 page comic I spent the least amount of time in inking turns out to be the one I've so far taken the longest time in coloring. >_<;

Heading downtown for the Open Draw get together thing at Decay @ 2pm. Hopefully get coloring done on a comic submission I need to finish before the end of the month. Again and always with me and cutting deadlines super close. >_<;

Heading to downtown Oly for the Night Drawer for the first time in a long time. This time... going to try drawing something all digital like, since I've been able to somewhat mimic my hand-drawn style with my tablet properly... hopefully it will go well. For example, here's a new digital comic page.

I say "new"... because it's a thing I've had for over a year but didn't have a computer capable of hooking to it till now (borrowing a Win 11 laptop from Luke). Hopefully I'll have some new art to post again soon... after this pause I took due to computers and art supplies being broken on meh. >_<;

Went downtown earlier today to go to the drawing thing at Decay but no one was there to let us in... so we moved over to Schwartz's (a little coffee shop on the corner of 4th ave). Getting used to using this "new" digital drawing tablet together with a free software called Krita.

Haven't been doing art as much the past few weeks, mostly writing... lots of wurds that I probs won't share but hopefully will make me better at it in the end. Found free software called FocusWriter I'm really loving. It is stripped down to minimal elements but also really customizable visually.

...but I still feel somewhat uncomfortable with the word "talent" just because I grew up in a religious context with people literally telling me "God has gifted you with talent so you need to use your talents for God"... which always felt crappy and belittling of my own efforts or agency, yeah.

To be fair... I was feeling super distraught and grumpy this morning when I made this post... and I think I was just being overly irritable/cynical about things like this...

I mean... It can feel nice to me when I get complimented for being talented sometimes too... Maybe I'm just in a bad mood around it lately or being persnickety here? Maybe I'm overthinking it all? It just feels less like a compliment to my own effort... and more like one paid to "God" or "nature"...

To be fair... I don't usually hold it against people who use it as a compliment... it's just... I feel like I can see the problematic implications that statements like "you're so talented" can lead to. For all those it encourages... it can also lead to a lot of discouragement, elitism, or apathy...

If anything, I often am made to feel like I LACK talent... constantly wrestling against my shaky handed clumsiness and inability to grasp lots of basic art fundamentals so many other artists seem grasp so seamlessly... despite my struggles to the contrary. >_<;

Just a random irritated thought... does anyone else get annoyed when someone calls you "talented"? I guess for me it feels similar to how religious minded people in my life often would say "God has gifted you with talent" as if my own personal work & effort put into developing a skill meant nothing.

Like... not being able to find music, large spots of dead air, record players mangling records, cds skipping, computer equipment malfunctioning, audience calling in to complain, logsheets and stuff missing, the kind of dream where you wake up literally hyperventilating in tears, that kind of dream.

For the first time in a long while... I had a panicky stress dream about DJing live on the air. Reminds me that, while I love the radio and it was what brought me to this town in the first place, it was a major source of stress in my life... one I set behind me for pretty solid reasons... sadly.

Woke up after only a few hours of sleep around 2am last night... been up since and it is 10 am now... head swimmy... bit of a headache... but decided I'd brew some coffee and stay awake anyways... try again for better sleeps later tonight. >_<;

went from... tired and groggy all day... pushing my ink pens thru to finish an illustration I was working on... finally trundling home to where I could get rest and now... many many hours later... nearly 4am... sleep is just... broken... and out of sight... blerg...

I've decided lately that... whenever I get something that sounds like a telemarketing call... I will respond by promptly switching over to making disturbed hissing noises into the phone until they hang up on me.

Like... Olympia Arts Walk is seriously not until towards the end of next month or something? April right? Yeah? And this is March? We're in March right? I think... hmmn... oh dear... I was even looking at the events listing for Arts Walk online yesterday and somehow didn't even notice this detail.

For some reason I totally had it in my head that Olympia's Arts Walk was today? And then I was bummed when I woke up an was feeling a little too "bleh" to drag myself downtown... but apparently my sense of time is as terrible as ever... and there is no arts walking to be had today after all... >_<;

Here's something I need to ink up eventually here... but thought I'd share this little line-up test I did of this two part illustration's blue-line roughs. The design for Wibbly Lanterns & The Prumbrill Hen... a Fae Librarian of the Lantern Towers who discovers joy in becoming a Magical Mime Girl~!

a one panel comic by Ormfrid Vilda Osklund... a turtle-like wizard sits on a tree reading a diary with their feet on top of a strange little green owl... the wizard says: "Such a wondiferously splendified DIARY has brought this humble WIZARD to TEARS!" / The upset owl replies: "Hey!! Get your stinkin' TURT FEETS offa' me...!!! And stop reading my DIARY!!!"

A colorized version of the second submission for spring's "Amalgum" comics zine... there were several theme words for the zine listed and apparently the organizer mentioned that "Turtle Feet" & "Diary" hadn't been used yet... so I drew up a submission covering both of 'em...

Billowslandia Abyss - ToxicTeaTimeTongue - by Ormfrid Vilda Osklund / water drips in a cavernous underground as Parsnipinthia sips her tea. Pelma holds a strange little herb and says "Hey Parsni! I added in a drop of THIS... wanna' try some in yours?" / Parsni inspects the herb and seems to come to a realization as Pelma sips her own tea. / Parsni finally replies in an uneasy voice " uEmm... Pelma... I'm pretty much for sures and certain that... this... is... umm... like... TOXIC?!.. and stuff...!" / Pelma snips back "Yeah?! But the tingly feeling it leaves on your tongue is SUPER NEAT!!" while sticking out her tongue next to a confuzzled looking Parsnipinthia "????".

A single page gag comic featuring my characters Parsni & Pelma. Rushed this out for a zine published by a local artist's meetup group. Tried to replicate my old "inkwash" style of shading in Photoshop. It was originally a 4 panel comic but stretched into 8 for the sake of added ambiance.

Star☆Twinkle PreCure fanart of the 13th Star Princess (aka the villainess of the season that aired in 2019-2020). Honestly one of my favorite seasons of PreCure... love all the colorful space/star stuff in this season... great designs... & the singing magical transformation sequence was neat~! ☆♥♫♪

Oh Neat! I love how it has bookmarks included too. If only I had the money to collect fancy stuff like this, then again... I don't even own a BluRay player. Still... fun to see~! (^_^;)

"Zombie Royalty" is the title in a ribbon at the bottom of the card-like illustration by Ormfrid Vilda Osklund. A elven zombie queen with melting skin and a fur-lined royal cloak holds a skull-topped staff while peering up at the moon.

"Zombie Royalty" : An illustration for Olympia's "Night Drawer" get-together drawing zine collaboration thing where they pick a theme and you draw something to fit with said theme. I've tried to make them kinda' look like tarot cards every time.

Sleep? What is sleep? Another night without sleep... shopping at 9am in the morning... pharmacy person says "good night~!" to me after handing over my prescriptions... and I'm like... is it that obvious? Oh dear... (-_-;)
