Image of a Red-rumped or ground parrot leaping over a concrete tub. With the recent heavy rains, the tub is filled with water.

These guys are highly coloured, especially males, with a blue-green upper leading to yellow at the underparts, deep blue wings leading to grey, and then there is their eponymous bright red rump clearly shown in this image.

The females are a more demure khaki colour.

Agreed in full re behaviours. Odd thing is Butcherbirds (or murderbirbs as I call them) aren’t β€˜infamous’ for swooping. This guy’s a juve. He’ll work it out. 😎

Image of sub-adult male Gang-gang cockatoo. These gorgeous Australian cockatoos (parrots) are known for their idiosyncrasies: a call that sounds like a squeaky door, adult males with their vivid carmine-red head adorned by a fascinating feathery crest, a cheeky inquisitiveness, and being an all around brilliant species. I am so fortunate to have them on my doorstep.

Cropped image of a Laughing kookaburra playing with a recently captured earthworm in its beak. As a bonus, a large ant can be seen in its beak. Ants produce formic acid (an pungent acrid vinegar-like carboxylic acid) as a defense mechanism and this may be reason the Kookaburra looks like it has bitten off more than it can chew.
