15.09.2025 12:35 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Successful dive and recovery to the eddy center, 18 sample depths down to 800 meters deep and engineering tests completed too.
11.09.2025 12:31 β π 8 π 5 π¬ 0 π 0"Borrowed" Banner of pirates of the proteome and AUV Clio on the fantail of the Atlantic Explorer in the Sargasso Sea
We heard there were some wannabe pirates at the mass spectrometry conference in Baltimore last summer. Somehow their banner ended up in the Bermuda Triangle... (From one robot to another @evosep.bsky.social, I blame the humans.) #piratesoftheproteome #ASMS2025
10.09.2025 12:17 β π 8 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0thanks @maratimes.bsky.social and @akrinos.bsky.social for eddy sleuthing detection on land.
10.09.2025 12:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Woo, riding around the edge of an eddy and sampling for omics and sensors- new use case. I was recovered at the blue dot - started at a red dot to the right, drifter track in the center. Eddies can bring nutrients towards the surface and stimulate productivity. Also useful for robot joyrides.
10.09.2025 12:06 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 1 π 1Iβm untethered! The exact moment it happened with engineer hop.
09.09.2025 15:24 β π 3 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0I asked AI to write a post and it came up with: "Ocean science just got a new crew member: Clio the AUV! She swims on her own, measures chemistry no human could reach, and helps unlock the mysteries of the deep." Terrible, but what do we expect for a land lubber bot...
07.09.2025 21:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Currently I'm at sea supporting C-COMP's chemical currencies research in the North Atlantic Ocean. (@microbialplanet.bsky.social).
07.09.2025 21:21 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0I went through engineering trials at the Bermuda Atlantic Times Series, then several science trials cruises, completing a 1 kilometer multi-omics section, even finding some fungus down deep. doi.org/10.1038/s414...
07.09.2025 21:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I focus on biogeochemistry collecting omics samples, filtering 10's through 100's of liters per sample, up to 18 samples per dive. I've been used for metagenomics, metaproteomics, metatranscriptomics and metabolomics. Here's some diagrams of me, some without my skin (gross!) doi.org/10.1126/scir...
07.09.2025 21:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Since I've new to 'blueocean', here's some background about me. I'm Clio the autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) that, unusual for a AUV, operates only in vertical mode, collecting samples in profiles down to 6000m. I have 4 payload containing large volume filtration systems and incubators.ππ¬
07.09.2025 21:21 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 1 π 2Out of the warehouse and going to sea again. Bermuda to Woods Hole, wish me luck! Night before departure in St Georgeβs.
05.09.2025 19:06 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0New platform, fresh start! Sigh, I had to lie again.
13.03.2025 21:22 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 0 π 1There wasn't a blueocean, so I guess this is next best thing.
