Yes! I agree with that 100%! But I keep clawing myself out of blank page syndrome again and again just to fall back into it. Meanwhile I see other awesome artists passionately work on specific projects for several years, while to me every long term thing becomes an unpaid passionless obligation...

Style/design would just be another technical skill. I think my problem is more about finding WHAT I want to do, not so much how well I do it.
And btw I'm not saying that I'm a master beyond learning, it's just that that used to be a motivator to me which it isn't anymore.

Funny you mention David Lynch. I'm not a big movie watcher but a while ago he was one of the first I figured I should catch up on. Eraserhead made me feel physically sick and it was awesome!
Thanks for the advice, I kinda forgot again that being an artist is partially about what you consume too.

I enjoy it when I have these rare sparks of inspiration. When I did my little 4 panel comics I really enjoyed it for a bit, or when I did my more recent black and white pinups with just a few color splashes. It was fun. It felt right. But then the novelty disappears and I'm back to square one.

Oh, one last thing I feel like it's worth mentioning:
I don't think the problem is that I'm limiting myself to nsfw-content. Over the years I did try putting some effort towards other things, but I don't think that's the issue here.

Is that something someone can learn or push themselves towards? I think so, but it's not as straight forward as looking up anatomy art courses on youtube...

So where does that leave me? Just grinding anatomy or perspective or whatever doesn't give me the motivation it used to, but at the same time I feel like I don't really have this inherent emotional artistic core as a Toby Fox or someone like that.

The fact that games like Deltarune or Animal Well are my favourite games of recent years instead of some high production AAA thing really speaks to that. Sure, they are visually pleasing in their own way but they are certainly not Davinci-type masterpieces.

Part of that is the rise of AI art. Clean consistent rendering/lighting and similar fundamentals just don't feel as meaningful anymore, But it's also about me as a person I think. I'm more drawn to ideas, concepts and emotions now.

When I was a kid I looked up to other artists for their skill. I looked at anime or MTG cards and thought to myself "I NEED to be as good as THAT!". And of course there are still artists I look up to for their skill, but the stuff that really leaves a mark on me now isn't really about the craft.

Time to shout into the void about my art feelings!

I think part of the reason why I'm really struggling to do art consistently in the last couple years, is that I have lost the ambition to become better on a technical level.
That aspect is just not interesting to me anymore.

Yes, when i tried logging in I kept getting some kind of "server unavailable" error. Funny enough it changed now after I made the post. Now the website isn't even properly loading. I also tried clearing browser cookies but that didn't help either. Super weird.
