In my 30 years of wildlife photography, last month was the first time I've managed to get a photo of a wild wolf outside of a protected area in Alberta. Why? Because every single wolf that doesn't live in a national park or other protected area is subject to a ridiculous level of persecution here in both this province and across Canada. For example, there is currently a wolf killing contest for trappers in Alberta with prizes up to $5K for the "best wolf pelt." So how many wolves can these 1691 trappers kill? As many as they f***ing want, because like most parts of this country, there are NO bag limits for trapping wolves. Similarly, wolves can be shot 10 months of the year on public lands, and 12 months of the year on private lands, again with zero limits.
