Transgender veteran files lawsuit to overturn ban on gender-affirming care A transgender Army veteran whose hormone therapy was halted by the Department of Veterans Affairs has filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging the VA’s ban on gender-affirming care.

Back to court today: “Veterans seeking transgender-related medical treatments ‘will have to do so on their own dime,’ VA Secretary Doug Collins said.”

Transgender vet sues VA over decision to halt hormone therapy meds VA officials in March announced plans to end all transgender-related health care programs, a move advocates say will hurt veterans.

"The lawsuit — filed by Yale Law School's Veterans Legal Services Clinic — . . . argue[s] the abrupt change [to deny necessary medical care] discriminates against transgender veterans and endangers their mental health."
