Computer-vision research powers surveillance technology - Nature An analysis of research papers and citing patents indicates the extensive ties between computer-vision research and surveillance.

We analysed over 40,000 computer vision papers from CVPR (the longest standing CV conf) & associated patents tracing pathways from research to application. We found that 90% of papers & 86% of downstream patents power surveillance

you’re not alone - happened yesterday because a table was slightly off page margin (like 3 mm)

what is worst is that there are quite many late reviews (in my batch, 5 papers, only one has 3 reviews as of this morning - 5 hours to the deadline) and the impression is that desk rejections are used as a sort of Mr. Wolf

## BREAKING NEWS ##
Being "Desk Rejected" at #EMNLP on the deadline of review submission because a table in the paper is 3 mm over the left marging so "this is ground for desk rejection".
I know I am not the only one expericing late and debatable desk rejections. Does it feel better? No.

I really think it's time to move all the conferences out of the US. It's very expensive, it's very hard to get a visa for many nationals, and now you can also be turned away at the border because of your political views.
