That's awesome to hear! I 100% agree and it's a lot like being autistic, too, because folks try to explain social norms and stuff to me as if that'll fix me. It's super-frustrating; not to mention, ableist. Most people just can't understand.

The one piece of advice I can give that had a profound effect on me is to remember this quote from Elie Wiesel:

"The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference"

We were originally talking about something far less heavy (gossip) so I still had that in mind with my original replies. When it comes to abusive parents, I think the goal should be complete indifference. It took a long time for me to get to that point, though, and it requires a lot of reflection. 🐨

I agree with you 100% - in fact, my mom abused me, too, for many years. Honestly, I don't know if I forgive her either. I used to be super-angry about it but I'm simply indifferent now. I definitely forgave myself, though, for all the anger. Yes, it's a tricky subject for sure! 🐭🧀

So, let go of the relationship and forgive in your heart. You can even see it as forgiving yourself - absolve the whole situation of negative emotions because there is no point. 🐹🥕

In other words, you can forgive someone while also breaking ties with them. You don't need to keep relationships with abusive people, of course. After breaking ties, holding onto negative feelings isn't good for your mental health and it also allows the abuser to torture you after the fact. 🍇🐿️

Absolutely! If it's repetitive abusive behavior then it's okay to break ties with someone, of course. In fact, that would be the best thing to do. Even if it comes to that, if you have resentment in your heart then it'll serve no purpose other than to make you miserable so that's why I forgive. 🐼🌮

Although it's easy to agree with you, I actually prefer to forgive folks because everyone deserves a chance to become better and that chance gets taken away if you hold resentments in your heart. I firmly believe the individual I'm talking about is a truly good person who was simply misguided. 🐰🥬

I realised recently that if folks talk about me behind my back, I'm cool with it. I'm an upstanding individual with a clear conscience and nothing to hide and I always want the best for everyone. Even when folks lie about me: if the listener actually believes those lies, that's not my problem. 😸
