We get many wonderful products that make our lives better, with the tradeoff that we need to take responsibility over how we consume and remain somewhat aware of ways we are being nudged toward buying decisions that might not be in our (or our wallets) best interest

Every single product we consume is the result of thousands of hours of research and development, many of which are spent maximizing not product performance, but profit potential. The battle for the dollar in your pocket is never ending and is the ultimate driving force behind every design choice.

Most products have subtle design choices that nudge the consumer toward using more. Even a 0.5% increase in utilization rate can increase profits significantly. We should be asking ourselves: why doesn't the tube on my pump shampoo go all the way to the bottom? Why "this much" per pump and not less?
