In the second section, Polanyi described a functionally organized socialist society, which would provide this imputation. In Polanyiโs functional socialist society, there would be two main economic organizations, the commune and the production association, which negotiate prices and social justice. The commune is the political community and the owner of the means of production. The production associations include โproductive cooperative,...
...guild, โself-managed factory,โ โbusiness partnership [sozietรคre Geschรคftsform],โ โsocial workshop,โ โautonomous enterprise,โ producing trade union, industrial union or producersโ general labor association, One Great Unionโ (SA, p. 403, fn. 24).10 The production associations have the right to use the means of production. Production associations can unite and administer industrial branches democratically on the behalf of society. All of the production associations come together into regional associations and then in a broader congress, in which all of production, services, and office work are represented. The production associations organize natural costs and labor costs. The commune would be set up in a similar fashion, but it, along with local consumer cooperatives, would represent consumer needs and the commune itself would be a forum for discussing the costs demanded by society. While there are only two main organizations, the production association and the commune, Polanyi also introduced the consumer organization (SA, p. 404). This aspect of the commune would take into account consumer preferences and local household interests, especially through local consumer cooperatives.
TIL Karl Polanyi had a plan for an economy centered on worker and consumer co-ops.

Worker co-ops that distribute surplus as patronage to members distribute a median total patronage of $190,890 across the membership each year and an average distribution of $8,241 to each worker owner. https://democracy.institute.coop/2019-worker-cooperative-state-sector-report
How would your life change if you made $8,241 more per year? Think about the difference it could make for working people living in poverty.
Worker cooperatives distribute thousands in patronage (profit-sharing) to their workers, which is in addition to their wages. It makes a difference.
They call themselves the Groundswell Collective. "We realized the good we could do when working together,โ Tom said.

October is National Co-op Month AND 2025 is the UN "International Year of Cooperatives"!
Since Wraith Games is a worker co-op, we figured the best way to celebrate would be to share some info about co-ops and why they're rad!
