I don't wanna pat myself on the back at all, but I'm really proud that Rascal intentionally focused on adding voices to the team that were not like me. It was right and necessary.

I've since had to learn some very hard lessons on supporting them. Still learning, to be honest.

it's the only way to do it! I'd rather stumble publicly and teach people.

I will say that the worker-owned orgs are having these discussions with each other, now. I wanna ensure the next evolution bakes support for marginalized writers into the foundations.

I don't know what the solution is. We're all out here trying to survive; none of us are making saving-for-retirement money. But that's no excuse to abdicate responsibility! Shit just gotta suck a little bit now so that it sucks less in the future lmao

Real talk: my experience shows non-cis white journalists have struggled most to feel supported by the worker-owned model, and that includes Rascal!

We fled our dead or dying jobs and created a future without preparing the structure for marginalized writers. We inadvertantly brought some rot with us
