Continuing the Jack fest today with this belter. This also comes with the welcome bonus of Soft Machine's Third advertised on the inner bag.

I misread that as Elton Dinnerjacket

It's a belter and no mistake.

Crikey, you can warm your hands with the heat coming off this record. I know it's an 'old fart yells at cloud' cliche, but I so rarely hear a contemporary UK jazz album blessed with the same kind of fire as this.

Providing the illumination tonight. The version of Will from this album is the best there is. DeJohnette is sublime.

Seeing Jack DeJohnette’s name on an album pretty much guaranteed it was worth listening to. I can’t recall any instance in his long and distinguished recording career in which he put ego ahead of the music. What a legacy he leaves behind.

For several years, I've been using Vinyl Solution - a spray-on/wipe-off treatment. However, this week I got a Pro-Ject VC-E2 cleaning machine that is, in effect, a powerful vacuum cleaner that sucks the dirt out of the grooves. The results have been VERY impressive so far.

Just given the excellent Photos Of Ghosts a sprucing up, allowing its precocious talents to dazzle. And yes, I know - the Italian versions are better yada, yada. However, this is the LP I bought in 1973, so please tread lightly on my dreams and memories, progheads!

The record cleaning continues today with a bit more John Mayall.

I've wanted something along these lines for a long time, but never been able to afford it until an unexpected commission provided the readies. Very glad I did and very impressed with the results so far.

One Last Cold Kiss, along with Pride And Passion does it for me. That solo intro on Pride takes me right back to when I saw them in 1972. It felt like the entire planet was holding its breath as those eerie notes slid into the air. Also, they were fucking loud.

Many, many Peter Hammill albums.

Many, many Peter Hammill albums.

As you can see, I have done a bit of research on this.

I didn't know that, Andy. I bought this when it came out, so I assume it's a B&C pressing. It always sounded good to my ears at the time. I bought the Back To Black reissue but was left aghast at the overall sound. My old copy sounded infinitely better, even with the accumulated detritus.

I'd first heard John Adams on that Obscure label release, and although interesting, it didn't do that much for me. Shaker Loops, a couple of years later, on the other hand, blew me bloody socks off! Still does.

I'm cleaning some venerable LPs of mine tonight and enjoying the before-and-after effects. I recently played this Peter Hammill album, bought over 50 years ago, and concluded I probably needed to upgrade it, as it had seen better days. Turns out it just needed a damn good clean.
