Microclimate of all buildings depends on various factors, yet many traditional buildings and historic churches can be cool spaces. Air circulation and material choices help.
@historicengland research is a reminder that many adaptations have been to keep heat in...
For #30dayswild a reminder of how amazing green spaces can be made everywhere, here in London and with many pots (beautiful studio inside too)

Long overdue visit to a collection today, not open for general visits, made me think of the recently opened V&A East Storehouse. The range of views on the developments there and international contrasts are fascinating plus people wanting to see 'behind the scenes'.

A good day at the Tower for @heritagealliance.bsky.social Heritage Day 2025. My notes seem to have been developing a new code to mark points of interest for different contexts! Well done @heritagelizzie.bsky.social @carolelsouter.bsky.social @delphinejb.bsky.social and all of team!

Happy birthday to us! 130 today and still going strong πͺ
A big thank you to everyone who is celebrating with us β₯οΈ
So... We did a thing. And then the thing ended up in Current Archaeology.
Seriously - this is the best thing we've done for AGES. And transforms our ability to understand the Palace. ππ€©

Good to join a really interesting Historic England and Humanise campaign roundtable discussion this week on wellbeing and emotional connection to buildings/place, incl. the historic environment.
It took place in the fascinating Heatherwick Studio.
A very complex diagram which begins with the question "Do you need a a gift for someone" but, despite many questions and choices, always suggests either giving a book or buying a book for yourself, or gets in a huff and says "I give up!".
A helpful gift shopping algorithm that I made for @theguardian.com a couple of years ago.

Word of the morning is βwilliwawβ (19th century): a sudden violent squall or a toppling gust of wind.
Goes well with βthunderplumpβ: a sudden downpour that soaks you to the skin in seconds.
Some of the @heritagealliance.bsky.social team visited our member the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich this week to see Luke Jerramβs spectacular Mars. A must see. #HeritageAndCreativity

Organic is the #museum30 prompt today, and it is the start of #nationaltreeweek as well as St Clements day. Interesting the links between all three in museum/heritage work and interests.

A large tree in a church yard. The tree is so old it has poles supporting its branches.
#NationalTreeWeek is fast approaching.
To celebrate, we'll be sharing some of our favourite trees from across the #SouthDowns
The first is the 1600-year old Wilmington Yew.
Pre-dating both the Norman Conquest and the church it sits next to, this tree needs all the help it can get.
Very clear!

So much work in #heritage sites and #museums around creating space, experiences, learning opportunities, interpretation and working with many others to do so. These cards were part of a staff/volunteer thank you a couple of years ago.

A hard one, as for many collections the aim is to keep bugs out, especially from items of natural fibres.

Museums are the places for many connections. Displays can open up many different discussions, e.g. here with the DΓa de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) altar.
