The country would have turned to a new face to address its frustrations, and we’d be preparing for midterms and another shot at the White House in 2028.
Instead, due to McConnell’s choice, Trump is on his way back to the Oval Office with no guardrails. The situation is anything but normal.

If McConnell had done the right thing, the GOP would have nominated someone else in 2024. We might be looking at a President-elect Haley or DeSantis. Biden wouldn’t have dropped out; he’d have faced a discontented post-COVID electorate, as many leaders worldwide have. But we would’ve moved as normal

In 2021, after Trump’s second impeachment, McConnell could have ended Trump’s threat by convicting him. He knew Trump’s guilt but chose the coward’s path. By voting to acquit Trump and leaving it to the "justice system," McConnell allowed Trump to remain a political force, leading us to this result.

This should never have happened. Instead of blaming different factions within the Democratic coalition, I put the blame on Mitch McConnell and Republican senators. #GOPSenate

Things may worsen before they improve. The U.S. will soon see the full scope of Trump’s Project 2025 agenda and how much power he can wield in this climate. Just how authoritarian will this government be? We’re about to find out. Resistance will surely follow.

After 2 losses trying to elect a woman pres, it’s understandable. It’s worth noting that America didn’t reject Harris overwhelmingly. In the same country that went Trump, we elected a range of diverse leaders: a trans Rep, African American women in the Senate, a Latino and a Korean American senator.

This wasn’t a landslide like 1972 or 1980. In an age of information silos, it’s hard to imagine broad consensus anymore.

That frustration with the economic status quo likely influenced the election outcome. Decades of wealth-favoring policies have taken a toll. It’s essential to avoid sweeping judgments. This election was close, as many have been recently, showing a lack of broad national consensus.

Biden’s economic policies aimed to shift things back towards the working-class. They worked to mitigate effects of Trump’s policies and the pandemic. Compared to other countries #JoeBiden did a decent job on the economy. But systemic issues favoring the wealthy remain, frustrating many voters.

These issues go beyond the election. Since Reagan, the economy has shifted away from workers and toward Wall Street. The system favors capital over labor.
If you earn from a paycheck, the system is "rigged" against you. Mechanisms in government perpetuate this unfair balance, entrenched for decades.

The Democratic Party coalition is broad, so criticisms range: some say the party is too progressive; others say it’s too conservative.
Some argue that the Democratic Party is now the "elite" party, only representing the college-educated and not doing enough for working-class voters.

One key lesson learned is that it takes time to fully understand what happened and why. It's important to analyze carefully and look at the full picture.
