Ok. Well, we all knew it was evil somehow but I really didn't expect Epstein to be responsible for why video games are bad now. That's just not what I would've thought.

totally sound and respectable takeaway. i think there’s a reality where they could have been as uncompromisingly independent as they wanted to be while still listening to the needs of their community, and frustratingly they did not foster that reality here

but yeah, i figured that’s not what you were aiming for with this thread, but wanted to say something ahead of people running with that association, which, it seems like many are already doing

there’s a vein of contrarianism that they’ve historically played to as a unit, and, if you ask me, this is one of the strongest examples of that mentality betraying what they stand for as individuals

yeah unfortunately, i can’t really argue that point. i love them ofc, and i’m saying this as their friend, but i understand their where their insistence to do the AMA comes from and i pretty strongly disagree with that choice.

all i can give is a personal assessment. this is in no way a defacto exoneration of anyone, but a carefully considered meditation on who these people are, and what their views are. also felt worth saying because I know the association here is going to suck all nuance out of the situation

but i’m also just like.. on the ready unfortunately, since i’ve seen ppl in that extended community become full on reactionary dimes square lunatics

the chris poole stuff sucks big time too but i personally wanna be careful about indicting anamana through association to the epstein bs, just knowing these ppl personally. that’s just my perspective here but i wanted to say my piece as someone who has very publicly associated with them

there’s a lot of their decision making that I have a tough time with still. the band name and the AMA cardinal among them, but i feel like the paper article does a p good job outlining that the nuance behind their choice to call the album that. at least it doesn’t seem as reactionary to me

it’s disappointing enough to pivot into this kind of content, but to become a less honest, less genuine person to do so is the choice that really baffles me. genuinely think people like this need therapy and personal guidance

it’s just this weird lack of acknowledgment, not only of the methodology, but the behavior around it too? it’s like in order to peddle this kind of content, you *have* to start acting like a grifter. that’s the meaningful wedge to me here. just an endless push to see what you can get away with
