What would be much better is a car deal that is cheap up front, but then paid for per mile to drive. Sadly, the industry is currently going in the opposite direction. Closest thing are lease deals; but they cover time, rather than distance.

The convenience factor and time savings (for many trips) gained by having a car readily available 24/7 is only accomplished after making this massive investment… but after that, it’s cheap per mile. So there’s very little incentive to seek alternatives once you have one
