I think the problem was he wasn’t a good messenger, people were used to how trump responded to the news of the day and didn’t get that with Biden, (at least those who aren’t as politically active). Governance-wise; he should’ve been priming the slow but soft-landing earlier.

It also feels less thought. The party, (which includes voters) aren’t spending time reflecting on why they lost and mostly want to react to the current situation they have no control over.

I’m not a huge fan of my congressperson but I can’t do anything about that until the midterm elections.

D’s have a non-politically active voter problem.

If we’ve learned anything from Bernie/ Trump 2020 rallies and Kamala 2024 rallies, crowd sizes don’t matter.

Also you can see the lane these three are in, none of them scream “exciting”.

Wouldn’t be better to not be in the discourse? Voters don’t know you, so you have a lot of runway to build your own persona.

This is why doing non-political events, even say non-political podcasts or interviews really help in this current ecosystem

That also comes with some carve out which could be good or bad for the party, (i.e. cultural stances, immigration, etc) question is can some of the voters deal with that?

1. Trump rewired the way voters see and hear prez doing things.

2. Biden wasn’t an effective messenger and the idea of him not being center stage didn’t help when a lot of non-active voters who don’t watch cable news.

The next D prez has to be everywhere all at once to get their message out.

I’m not sure it’s praise but surprise. One thing I’ve heard in focus group podcasts is that voters see what he’s doing, they may not like it, but they’ll say “well at least he’s doing something.” I’m sure many haven’t processed it or just aren’t politically active but there’s two possibilities here:

There’s ton of left-leaning or non right-wing podcasts or YouTube channels that D’s can work with, the problem is D’s are uncomfortable with the unknown that comes with it. Hosts with no media training or background check, etc. Dipping into non-political stuff and not coming off with no personality.

I’d like to think this is true, but my guess is they’ll find a way to rationalize it and blame someone else.

There’s also the issue of engagement; I find this app to be a bit boring in comparison to TikTok.

There’s also generational issue on here. Most people under 30 aren’t on here, they’re on TikTok, Twitch or YouTube.

No one remembers these things or those who caused it. It’s why the senators who voted yes are:

1. Retiring or have announced they’re retiring
2. Was just reelected in 2024
3. Can waste some capital to help other senators who were probably going to vote for it but caved under pressure.

One thing Rogan, Von, Brand, The Breakfast Club and Hasan have in common is that they didn’t start off as political podcasts, and in some ways thread a fine line between political and entertainment. Right-wing content seeping into the non-political landscape but I think it’s the other way around.
