Besides some EVs using inefficient resistive heaters even heat pumps have to work harder extracting cold temperatures and turning it into heat.

Heating using up more power is the number one complaint with EVs. Though not an issue if you don't live in colder climates.

Reality is dependent on your point of view. The United States emissions are far less than China's and it's quite likely the tariffs and China's slowing economy has decreased their emissions.

I would pose a question that that the mad King's tariffs and China's decrease in manufacturing due to them is part of the equation.
