This shouldn’t, however, lead anyone away from said structured organization. “There are more of us than there are of them” is true, but this only matters if we can show up in numbers where and when it matters. That we circulate, strategically and often, the truth, like this statement.

The response can’t be institutional, it has to be community-led and based. The response can’t come from the state, that has spent decades pacifying and subjugating. The response has to be about strengthening neighbourhood and fostering a mutual sense of safety.

Vengeance against open cities, against open communities, against open idea(l)s. Vengeance against the helpers, the selfless, the ordinary folks who go out to assist, even those without structured organization around them. Vengeance against the fact they still exist despite strong insistance.

Pretty was a RN tending to critically ill veterans. As part of his community work, and the love he had for his city and neighbour, he tended to a woman who had been pepper sprayed by ICE. Even once he was on the ground, the agent kept shooting 8 more times. This is about vengeance.
