There are not enough words to express how very much I love my child. Pouring love into another human being, then watching them grow, and becoming the beneficiary of that same love is the greatest gift I could ever receive.

Presidents' Day is a reminder that presidents are elected to serve the PEOPLE.

Not unelected billionaires.
Not giant corporations.
Not special interests.
Not their families.
Not their ultra-wealthy friends.

The people.

It’s Fancy February, the time when folx are banging down the doors of people who are engaged in the work of preserving & sharing Black stories. We’ll be exhausted on March 1st, but are still fancy all February. This work is 365 days/year. Consider that we can bring it any month, not just February.

The Great Dismal Swamp is a 190 sq mile swamp running from SE Virginia to NE North Carolina. Before the Civil War, it was home to 1000s of formerly enslaved people. References can be found to the formerly enslaved (known as maroons) who settled in the swamp dating back to well before the 1700s.

The 15th Amendment, giving Black people the right to vote, was ratified on this date in 1870. It specifically prohibits the US government from denying any citizen the right to vote based on their "race, color, or previous condition of servitude.”

Some folx need to read this again. πŸ™„

LANGSTON HUGHES
2/1/1902 – 5/22/1967

POET TO BIGOT
I have done so little
For you,
And you have done so little
For me,
That we have good reason
Never to agree.
I, however,
Have such meagre
Power,
Clutching at a
Moment,
While you control
An hour.
But your hour is
A stone.
My moment is
A flower.
