I find this really disturbing because it's just another sign that they are positioning themselves to dismantle civil rights laws.

So it is possible for professional organizations to have a backbone. Guess just not ours.

An EEOC admin. judge sent a fiery all-department email this AM alleging:
1. Trump's exec orders & instructions to target private citizens with them are illegal.
2. the judge had sent an earlier email with a similar tone yesterday that later vanished from their sent folder & colleagues' inboxes.

Curious to see how many people who coincidentally started studying DEI in 2020 suddenly switch topics and do nothing to publicly support it now that the tides have shifted

Letter reading, "Dear agency employees,
We are taking steps to close all agency DEIA offices and end all DEIA-related contracts
in accordance with President Trump’s executive orders titled Ending Radical and Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing and Initial Rescissions of Harmful Executive
Orders and Actions.
These programs divided Americans by race, wasted taxpayer dollars, and resulted in
shameful discrimination.
We are aware of efforts by some in government to disguise these programs by using coded or imprecise language. If you are aware of a change in any contract description or personnel position description since November 5, 2024 to obscure the connection between the contract and DEIA or similar ideologies, please report all facts and circumstances to
DEIAtruth@opm.gov within 10 days.
There will be no adverse consequences for timely reporting this information. However,
failure to report this information within 10 days may result in adverse consequences.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter. Janet Petro"

If you are ready to advocate to your representatives (or friends and families) about the economic value of NIH funded research, you can check your state at www.unitedformedicalresearch.org/nih-in-your-...

Holding the Line: Strategies for Sustaining DEI Amid the Rising Tide of Opposition – Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology Over the last 3 years, the United States has experienced a stark increase in legislation aimed at curbing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, a trend that is likely to accelerate under...

In our new TIP paper, we call on the #SIOP and #IOPsych community to take action to preserve #DEI, even if their research, practice, or teaching isn't focused on DEI. It affects our whole profession when evidence-based practices are banned based on political whims.

Truly and deeply upsetting to see this from a journal in our field. I have received several transphobic comments on my work from top journals, so I unfortunately can't say I'm surprised. But we have to do better.

Gov. Abbott threatening to fire the president of #TexasA&M over sending an email about the PhD Project conference is shameful. And frankly, we all seem way too calm about our jobs being increasingly criminalized.

I want to compile a comprehensive list of research funding opportunities for our PhD students in HRM/Labor Relations as part of a doc seminar I'm teaching. I'd love to tap the community here to make sure I cover all my bases. Please share any that you know of. I'm happy to post the final list.

What I struggle with the most when I have a high volume of grading is that I find it so BORING. Does anyone have any tips or tricks for staying motivated and engaged? I feel like I would truly rather do anything else.

16.12.2024 21:57 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yikes. I might send a polite email to the journal asking for an update and, if that doesn't spur any action, move on to the next journal.

I have some analyses to run that my calendar is telling me I don't have time for. Should I just send them to you? What's one more

My hope was to create ownership and show them that they have to add value beyond chatgpt when they are on the job. There have of course still been violations of the policy, but it hasn't been as rampant as expected. I imagine the stress of finals will change that, though.

They still have a couple of days so I'm really just trying to forecast how bad it's going to be. I gave them an assignment the first week of class where I asked them to reflect on legitimate vs. detrimental uses of AI and create their own policy.

To other folks in the throes of grading final projects: are you seeing a lot of AI usage? How are you handling it? What do you do to preempt or lean into it?

Or would it be activism for physicians who focus on reproductive healthcare to say that banning abortions kills people? Or is that just sharing scientific evidence?

07.12.2024 01:28 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I completely agree with Lars. Papers written on every topic take a stance - that increased performance is good, high turnover is bad, etc. They all make recommendations about org practice. That is arguably the point of our field. But it's called "activism" when it's about DEI?

06.12.2024 21:21 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

DEI is also a concept and this mistakes people's commitment to that goal as uncritical acceptance of all individual DEI initiatives. They aren't the same thing. Those of us who care about DEI want high standards for DEI initiatives. Not to just support bad practice.

I have gotten a few of these this semester. They weren't the wrong discipline, but they said I study topics I most certainly do not. One even cited a paper that was not mine. I get that these things may happen here and there. But the snarky follow up? Nope.

My recent answer would be this paper. It draws much needed attention to intersectionality within our field and builds on critical work by KimberlΓ© Crenshaw
