I am very sorry to read of the death of Michael O'Brien, former mayor of Clonmel and survivor of abuse in the Industrial School in Ferryhouse, Clonmel. His contribution on RTÉ'S Q&A programme in 2009 was one of the most powerful pieces of television I have ever seen. Condolences to his family.

It's owned by the Sisters of Mercy, who own the Mater Hospital. It was opened to the public for the first time last summer after appeals by local residents. It's a lovely park, and in fact, most people who enjoy it are staff,visitors, and patients from the hospital

The caryatid at Elefsina. I love the caryatids from the Acropolis in Athens, but this one is a real beauty. One of two that stood at the entrance to the Sanctuary at Elefsina.
