Alexander: Was it really that surprising that LeBron made the right play?
The public reaction to Thursdayβs end-of-game pass for the Lakersβ winning basket seemed to be almost shock.
In today's bucket o' notes: Should it really be that surprising that LeBron James made the right play at the end of the game Thursday night in Toronto?

Luka Doncic scores 43 points, but Lakers fall to Warriors in season opener
Doncic falls one assist short of a triple-double, but Jimmy Butler scores 31 points, Steph Curry adds 23 and Golden State makes 17 3-pointers to hand the LeBron-less Lakers a 119-109 defeat.
Whether it was a lack of discipline or attention to detail, the Lakers had enough "self-inflicted" lapses to undo the good from their season-opener against the Warriors β including Luka Doncic's dominant offensive performance.

Alexander: Do 400 home runs make Mike Trout a sure Hall of Famer?
History says itβs not a no-doubter, but the three-time AL MVP still has a chance to burnish his case to be a first-ballot choice for Cooperstown.
Would I give Mike Trout a Hall of Fame vote if he were on the ballot today? Yes.
But when the time actually does come, how many voters will prioritize those dominant early years of his career over his later injuries and his organizationβs failures?
