We are hearing that almost all of the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE) has been let go. This is devastating news for both the employees, who are being treated as nothing more than political pawns, and for K–12 education in this country—both deserve better.

The executive branch is refusing to distribute funding that was appropriated by Congress to be distributed in accordance with formulas laid out in statute. This violates, as they say in the legal world, a fuckton of laws.

This is particularly disgusting given that Elon could end world poverty any time he wanted and simply doesn’t.

All those right-wingers who claimed the First Amendment was under attack because they couldn’t say racist shit without consequence are strangely silent now that the First Amendment is actually under attack.

The attacks on the U.S. Department of Education have nothing to do with efficiency or with returning education authority to the states. For starters, states and school districts (NOT the federal government) already control what's taught in schools.
