Going to GCX is about so much more than gaming, and I didn’t quite have the words for it until this year, when @professorbroman.bsky.social told me that it’s about found-family, and being the light in an otherwise darkened world.

And then, when the sun sets on the last day, we go and be kids for a few hours. We go run and ride, drink Butterbeer, and pretend to be dinosaurs.

We laugh and scream with each other, smiling and trying not to think about waiting a whole year to do it again.

We get to share in this space that makes us so happy, we get to smile and be ourselves without fear, and we create memories that will help carry us through the increasingly difficult journey of creating and consuming content.

But not only that, it’s the people who come together to celebrate that love, and to experience it for themselves for a joyous irl reprieve in Florida.

Bringing our digital friends into our personal lives is a uniquely special thing that we look forward to every year.

This event has always been about something bigger than gaming. It’s been about taking that thing we all love, and turning it into a catalyst for bringing joy into the world where it’s needed most.

That is what drives me to be involved year after year. It’s the people-focused mission. It’s the love.

GCX is in the books fam. And after a wonderful trip and safe arrival home, I’ve had a few days to reflect on what makes GCX so special and I thought I would share some photos and chat about it.

10 years…I still remember watching a CNN broadcast about a group of gamers who raised $1M for St. Jude.

I love how often we get to see the characters speaking in the campaign. It’s nice to have that done visually and not just over audio, really makes the narrative hit harder.

I’m not sold on the portal yet, but that could be 10yrs of muscle memory hanging on.
