I recently joined a songwriting group to try to get back into music making. This week's theme is "smell," and I naturally went 100% juvenile. I'm relieved that even amidst my concerns about the state of the world, I'm still capable of such silliness! So here's "He Who Smelt It (Dealt It)."

Computer face-down in a box ready to be shipped out.

After nearly 6 years of service, I got a new computer and the old one is boxed up to be sent in for recycling. As I grow older and slower myself, replacing it feels strangely emotional, but it’s also time: the fans were constantly turning on as the computer struggled to meet modern demands.

Looks great! But don’t forget you were at a Motern concert too! But yeah, given that was in a hotel conference room, I’ll grant that maybe that doesn’t really count as same kind of “concert experience…”

The new Circus Creatures album somehow manages to be both cinematic and intimate, telling tales of monsters, murder, darkness and ultimately even hope through seductively deadpan narration and music that's creepy, heavy and at times quite beautiful. Highly recommended!

Hey @fogmoose.bsky.social, I’m shocked to see that your bandmates are engaged in a marathon-length walk today, just a day before tomorrow’s concert. You should have forbidden them from going; I expect a well-rested, energetic performance tomorrow night so I get my full money’s worth!

I finally received my beginner lap Mountain Dulcimer a few days ago, so now, in addition to my middling ukulele playing, my wife gets to hear the droning sounds of me poorly practicing that instrument as a complete beginner too. Exciting times for her!

Spotify’s plan to demonetize songs that don’t reach approximately $0.05 in royalties (17 plays) per month is going to cut off the 3-4 cents per month I currently generate! There go my dreams of eventually being able to buy a private jet!

I saw the Georgio-Moroder-soundrack version when it was released in theaters in 1986. I know it's sacrilege to some, but I *really* like the soundtrack; I bought it on CD way back then and still listen to it pretty regularly today, almost 40 years later.

I’m not female, and I also wouldn’t say I peaked at 16, but I also can’t climb a ladder at my advanced age any more without my knees really acting up. Getting older stinks.

I used to like working with Bandcamp; they were some of the "good guys." Well, that ship seems to be sinking fast. It was a great platform while it lasted; I wonder how long it will take at this point to completely fall apart.

Although my efforts at becoming proficient at the ukulele are ongoing even after 4 years, I think I'm going to start a 2nd instrument too. In the "4 string" realm (which is all I can handle), I considered bass, but think I'm actually going to go with mountain dulcimer. Thoughts?

I know who The Byrds (and the Beach Boys) are, but The Final Countdown is an awesome song and I am shocked and saddened that you’re implying (or outright saying) otherwise!
