31.10.2025 17:22 โ ๐ 6444 ๐ 2808 ๐ฌ 25 ๐ 38This month: add in other horror films, a 24 hour marathon, and i'm spinning with SFX of blood and gore when I close my eyes.
A lot of write ups, thoughts, and more films on the 'watch soon' list, but for now, I'll take a weekend break from it all.
Thunder storm and high winds on Halloween brown-outed the power right after watching the final films on the list. Phew! Spooky!
The #superscarymovies Challenge from Important Cinema Club is complete! A couple categories I did multiple for, a few films watched that didn't quite fit, but Success!
Last minute addition to your Halloween viewing!

Nothing says "Good morning, computer!" than watching it power up while Discord locks up one screen in order to Dr. Manhattan itself back together.

But looking past that; A series of thrillers and serial killers, average overall with some nice standout moments.
I've always had a soft spot for anthologies. Shorter blips are easier to absorb and focus on, great for showcasing a wealth of directors and actors to discover.
I think these films get rough reviews for being a little cheap and, mostly, for being Tales From The Occult without a lick of Occult in them. The mere mention of a ghost in a short has everything come near to a halt as someone explains,
"It's not a ghost! It's A hallucination/VR/Mental Illness!"
Film 23! Post 2000's Hong Kong Horror.
Technically this was 22, but I wanted to just marathon all 3 of Tales From The Occult (2022-2023)! That's the original and sequels 'Body and Soul' and 'Deadly Malevolence' for 9 anthology shorts in about 5 hours!
Phew!
Film 22: Shot By Jack Cardiff
Even Britain's top DOP couldn't elevate this Egyptian The Omen too far. The Awakening (1980) has a lot of interesting things around it, Heston's Villain era, Townsend quitting acting, 1st Mummy film in Egypt...But the film itself is a 3/5

The scene: Today. Autumn settles in. A woman who lives between two cultures, now lingers between two alternate dimensions. Occupation: Author, but those talents are pressed to its limits when names change spelling and words alter meaning...here in the Twilight Zone.

The Night Caller (1965)!
It's hard for me to watch these films anymore. More technobabble than a Star Trek episode, more standing around than a statue garden. The director's little touches and Alien's CRAZY plan elevate it to a 3/5.

Film 20: Killer Murders With His Bare Hands.
Adam Chaplin (2011) is an Italian splatter gorefest that's a must watch for anyone who wants gallons of cherry syrup blood in every fight scene.
It's a shame the craziness slows to a crawl in anything that's not gore tho

20 films into #superscarymovies, following the guide by DeclouxJ.
This has been an intense month of horror so far. A lot of newly discovered films that don't fit the themes, so I'll probably be watching horror all Nightmare Before Christmas season, too.
Haven't squeezed in Sadako at all! Anyway.
Watched a bunch Saturday, so Quick recap so I stay clear on the list so far.
17: Features VR: Brainscan (1994)
18: Features Swamp Monster: Red Billabong (2016)
19: Mostly Takes Place in Library: Cram (2021)
All in all, fun day of watchin' horror films. Loved Cram, other 2 were decent!
Remember folks. The original bluesky ethos by us bluesky elders (apparently I count?) is block and move on.
Don't quote dunk, don't pick fights.
Block, and move on.
This is what made this site unpalatable to the right early on, and we can continue to make it unpalatable to them.

90s Made For TV: I've Been Waiting For You (1998)
There's a fun recorded-off-the-tv version here, www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQJL...
for all that sweet '98 commercial action.
Really disappointed in this one. Worst possible way to end any movie. Confusing, dull.

Movie#15
Texas Chainsaw Massacre Ripoff.
Time for Skinned Deep (2004)!
One of those films where I'd love to just watch a few films with the director, you know? Wasn't expecting anything in this, house and diner with a massive complex underneath, full of weirdos.

Update on my #superscarymovies challenge! Digging up films I haven't seen, some for now and most for later. Still trouble with some categories.
Movies, so many movies...If I were a vampire, maybe then I'd have time to watch them all. Run a theatre, 20$ or pint of blood to watch all day.
Film 14! Directed by Charlie Roxburgh.
Had to be a repeat, since I've seen all the 'horror' ones, Freaky Farley (2007!)
Like a cold river swim in late July, always nice diving back into the Motern films. The goofy earnestness always wins me over.

Day 13 and Film 13! Scary Sports!
Frankenhood (2009)
Spending Sat and Sun in a 24 hour horror marathon, I needed to treat myself. Probably the happiest version of the Frankenstein tale to ever exist? Dumb Friday-style comedy had me laughing the entire runtime.

๐จ A stamp of the Butterfly Lovers Subsequently, Liang Shanbo became the magistrate of Muxian County. He fell into melancholy and illness, eventually passing away. Before his death, he requested to be buried in Jiulongxu in Muxian County. When Zhu Yingtai was being taken to her wedding, they passed by Liang Shanbo's grave. Suddenly, a strong wind arose, obstructing the progress of the wedding procession. Zhu Yingtai got off her sedan chair and paid her respects at Liang Shanbo's grave. The grave collapsed, and she threw herself into it. Soon after, a pair of colorful butterflies emerged from the grave and flew away together, leaving the mortal world. 2/2
๐จ ใ่ดๅฅใ่ญ็็ฐ During the Eastern Jin Dynasty, in Shangyu County of Kuaiji Commandery, there was a girl named Zhu Yingtai who loved reading poetry and books, longing to pursue studies outside her home. However, women were not allowed to study publicly at that time. She disguised herself as a man and went to the city of Kuaiji in Kuaiji Commandery to study. On her way, she met Liang Shanbo, a scholar from Muxian County of Kuaiji Commandery. They instantly became close friends and traveled together. For three years, Liang and Zhu studied together, but Liang Shanbo never knew that Zhu Yingtai was actually a woman. Later, Zhu Yingtai had to interrupt her studies and return to her hometown. When Liang Shanbo visited Shangyu to propose marriage to Zhu Yingtai, he discovered that his close friend from the past three years was a woman. Unfortunately, by this time, Zhu Yingtai had been promised in marriage to Ma Wencai, the son of the magistrate of Muxian County. 1/2
The Butterfly Lovers is no mere romance; it's a defiance of fate, gender roles, and societal chains.
Zhu Yingtai disguised herself as a man to pursue knowledge, only to find love in Liang Shanbo. Bound by shared ideals yet torn by arranged marriage and rigid norms, their love was doomed in life.1/2
Batman slapping Robin meme with the caption, an "18+" sign being over Batman's face while Bluesky's logo is over Robin's. Robin as Bluesky: "No discussing self-harm, suicide, abuse (sexual, drugs, substance, etc.) unless it's educationalโ!!!" Batman as 18+ creators (or non-professionals in general): "Artists are not teachers or therapists. We are not obligated to teach you anything."
Apparently a lot of ppl needs to hear this

Film 12. Tokusatsu Horror.
Time for Zรซiram (1991)!
Amazing costumes, creepy+gross antagonist, fun bits of martial arts. Everything about the film is amazing...except for the low stakes and the slow, slow pacing that drags it all out.
Time to rewatch the anime!
