The AHA has updated our Guide for Contending with Online Harassment, offering recs to support members who are targets of online harassment. "Historians have the right to expect that discussion of their historical work will be conducted in a civil manner, free from harassment and intimidation." 🗃️

And assaulting a senator or representative when defending their constituency is attacking democracy, as well as all of the people that person represents.

Understandable. I'm not trying to invalidate how you're feeling. The entire thing is unsettling, so I get why people are reluctant and would decide to at the very least hold off on filing.

There’s no reason to not file - I am filing. I expect to owe & I do plan on paying.

The unknowns here are the issue. Musk has access at the moment. We don’t know what that means yet. For now, the industry is proceeding as normal.

I’m just recognizing that what is happening is not normal.

Just breathe. Unknowns are unknowns, and I'm not a fan. Until we understand what is even being done or "decisions" being made w/all that sensitive data...we won't know how bad or benign it all is.

I've worked (and still do) in the tax preparation industry for 20+ years and let's just say...there are a lot of unknowns from my standpoint right now.

So far we are proceeding with Tax Season as usual, but I do not expect April to go smoothly.

If you can file early this year, I'd advise that.
