I bet he stopped doing all that after the sludge incident bc he was bullied and ridiculed from other peers, unlike himself who only seemed to target deku specifically (not like it's any better), but it was enough for him to tone down his annoying self which is why he kept it more to himself in UA

Imo he was most likely the snobby kid everyone hated because he reminded the teacher about the homework he forgot to grade, answered the teachers questions and fought everyone who dated to 'steal' any opportunity to do so
