Two big levers of decarbonisation:
1. Shifting from fossil fuel power to clean power
2. Shifting from molecules to electrons
Many countries are now doing well on (1).
Slower on (2), but this is where a lot of potential lies.

A few years ago "transport poverty" was just a niche academic concept.
Now the EU has published its recommendations on how to tackle it & a helpful data dashboard transport.ec.europa.eu/news-events/...

5. The study advises to temper expectations regarding the potential of steering energy demand flexibility through dynamic pricing. Recognizing the limitations and challenges in influencing everyday energy practices is essential for developing realistic and effective energy policies.

o Target Engaged Households
o Prioritize High Energy Consumers
o Align Signals with Familiar Rhythms
3. The study indicates that these ingrained practices provide meaning to everyday activities, suggesting that efforts to promote energy flexibility should consider and integrate existing household habits to be effective.

Maybe this has changed after the so-called energy crisis. Here are some insights from a new study 👇 @aau.dk @energyefficiency.bsky.social link.springer.com/article/10.1...
People change how much they fly through their life course - but what factors explain these changes?
We just published the first study to look into this with panel data link.springer.com/article/10.1...
My first paper (with @Paula van den Brom as the main author) reaching 100 citations. Our analysis (very conveniently) indicate that ascribing 50% of the variation in heating demand to occupants could be a good rule of thump 😊

With few days to the Christmas holidays, I present two graphs that show how our energy consumption patterns and rhythms change during holidays (and weekends).
=> daily patterns lose its strong peaks
=> "peak" demand appears later
=> routines are less routinized
The world is set to move rapidly into the Age of Electricity ⚡️
In recent years, electricity rose 2x as fast as total energy demand
But from now to 2035, it's set to grow 6x as fast, driven by EVs, air conditioners, AI & more

Working with #sustainableconsumption, I'm often asked about a 'green Christmas'. My take is "Don't bother with the small stuff (recycle wrapping), but try to do less (fewer presents) and practice 'sharing'". Kind of sufficiency? What are your take? @luciemidd.bsky.social @thargreaves.bsky.social
