05.01.2025 18:18 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We 20-year-old blogs have to stick together. I canβt imagine the effort involved in your song list. My monthly or so 20-song playlists are hard enough! I look forward to going through your choices.
04.01.2025 01:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Late to the party but as always, the Said the Gramophone list of best songs of the year provides discovery and delight, both in the listening and the reading. Novelist Sean Michaels writes circles around most people who pretend to be music writers.
03.01.2025 15:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0There was a certain amount of grumbling over Radiohead's domination but if it's not too late I'd like to speak up for the results. Personal taste aside, by many reasonable benchmarks, the band is artistically in a league pretty much of their own. Their success in the #XPNCountdown is well deserved.
13.12.2024 19:30 β π 13 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0And oops I of course meant 'one-vote wonder.'
13.12.2024 14:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I know it dates me but: no Elvis Costello in the 885, despite his dozen or so 21st-century albums. Couldn't help it, I had to put something on my list-- one of the truly great overlooked songs, "No Hiding Place," from Momofuku (2008), which I'm sure is a 'one-hit wonder.' #XPNCountdown
13.12.2024 14:15 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Thing is, there are plenty of songs that well deserve to be ranked among the 885 best that no one would be likely to place in a top 10. Itβs kind of a weird way to gather a top 885 if you think about it. But entertaining! #XPNCountdown
13.12.2024 00:41 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I like Wilco a lot and will one day figure out why everyone likes Impossible Germany so much. #XPNCountdown

11.12.2024 20:28 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hm. You make a good point. I guess Neil's larger problem is that he is generally overlooked everywhere, not just on XPN.
10.12.2024 19:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Now here's a Bruce song worthy of strong consideration. A 21st century classic, if under-appreciated. #XPNCountdown
10.12.2024 19:21 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Agreed. Sadly a lot of quality music is in that same category, by both older musicians and newer ones too. Mostly listeners follow the lead of the station; it's not like XPN itself goes out of its way to keep Neil more active on their regular playlists.
10.12.2024 18:31 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0"Turn and Run" and "Anytime" also great!
10.12.2024 18:15 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Agree about Neil Finn; he's rather underappreciated. Alas, "She Will Have Her Way" came out in 1998, so no hope to hold out for that one.
10.12.2024 18:08 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Erika Wennerstrom (Heartless Bastards) is an underrated rock'n'roll singer. Nice to see her band represented a couple of times. #XPNCountdown
