An Indian stick insect on the poster’s hand

Would anyone in the LA area like a pet stick insect?

This appeared in my yard and apparently they’re invasive so they really shouldn’t be just left to their own devices, but I don’t really want to harm her. She’s quite handleable. They are illegal to import but legal to keep if collected locally.

Should my mentally-ill father have been removed from my life (and, probably, teaching public high school, possibly all of society) because of his illness?

...is not far, in my mind, from the same question as 'Should people shouting slurs be removed from public settings?'

I think yes, but YMMV.

...but it took 14 years and several court hearings for my schizophrenic father to lose custody rights...

...because certain populations in society (white men) *always* seem to take priority over their victims (Black people / families of the ill.)

I, personally, can't help but look at it this way:

True. But the feds have building/life safety codes also. As a profession we are absolutely ingrained with the idea that we are responsible for the "health safety and welfare"(HSW) of occupants, (& that includes guards and staff even if the architects are MAGA.) That is not a genuine plan.
