Me signing up for the library in the year I told myself to focus on reading books I already own wasn't super smart. The world of Libby is too tempting (but also helpful to get audio versions of the books I own) ❤️

A library card in Berlin costs 10 euros per year, and the amount of content (digital as well) you get for that is insane. I love it. (a similar offer in Amsterdam would be more than 60 euros per year, just to compare to where I come from)

Raw dog a book. Get something from the library that you’ve never heard of and don’t know the outcome of. Do the Brian Eno thing where you roll dice or draw cards and go to that section of the library. Retrain your intellectual curiosity. Try something you might hate and see what you learn from it.

I've been doing some group strength training, it's the kind of exercises you'd do at the gym except that they take the thinking out of it for you, and it's honestly great. I really dislike having to track reps, sets, breaks, weights, different exercises. This setup allows me to just do 💪

"Lives" also includes work (sharing commentary or insights) but also hobbies like making art = needs to be shared online, going to gigs = post videos online, etc.

Sometimes I feel like our society only sees the lives shared online as worth living, which is just selection bias (I see the lives & commentary online) and as someone who doesn't enjoy posting on most social media anymore, I sometimes feel like my life is "nothing". I don't know how to combat that.

As one of the instagram accounts I deleted held my little #poetry experiments, I thought maybe I'd share some here. Even though it's very scary to do so.

So many people use capitalizing a word as 'Emphasis' and it. is. not. in formal English language rules. In tweets, texts, blogs, do whatever, but in UI or professional spaces it often conflicts with actual language rules (like capitalizing proper nouns) and just makes things hard to parse.

One of the most annoying pet peeves I have is the general lack of consistency and thought about capitalization in UI. The moment you notice this, you'll never see anything else and it's annoying for both you and everyone else.

It's a tiny step but I finally deleted 2 of my 6 (?!) Instagram accounts. Mostly unused ones, but still. A small step in the right direction to move away from meta.

Also easier with an ereader: reading at night, reading while eating, reading when lying on your side & not having to awkwardly switch the book over, highlighting without getting anxious about errors and lastly: the built-in dictionary. I love being able to look something up in just a tap & hold.

It took a bit more me to get into reading ebooks, but I do love it now. I love physical books as objects and buy them still, but the lightness of the e-reader and that I can use it easily with just one hand is awesome. And I can have hundreds of books with me in just that little device!
