Sick of #socialmedia? Listen to Sherlock Holmes then.

That is, since all the other ways have failed, let's try to push THIS saner way to be online:

Too few jobs and too many people? Naah Those may well be the two biggest misunderstanding of our age.

50 yrs ago, #overpopulation WAS a problem. Today, in most places, the OPPOSITE is true, and this how to fix it:

1) it's not #women, it's men AND women

2) respect choice AND....

3) instead of giving pennies to have ONE baby, do THIS:

#fertility #family #parenting

Some comments I'm seeing on Georgia's runoff... …just confirm one thing I’ve always thought of Americans.

it's half funny, half appalling how much Americans make everything about voting ridiculously hard, see

#AI is a #religion.

Seriously. Medieval heretics were much smarter, much more sincere and much less greedy too.

But AI **is** a really lousy, really childish medieval religion, and it's really easy to see it:

ODF 1.4 Standard Set for Debut: Why This Is Important - FOSS Force As ODF 1.4 nears release, office suite developers and users alike can expect an open, transparent format designed to meet modern needs.

One of the most important steps toward digital freedom is also the easiest: demand to produce and receive office file ONLY in the right format... which is NOT #Microsoft Office:

If some offices in #Austria's government are "running into incompatible document format problems" they should only blame #Microsoft for not being compatible with ODF:

every time people (especially #freesoftware advocates!)...

use #opensource software to produce or accept files in proprietary formats

they HURT themselves and legitimize #Microsoft’s dominance, all for no reason. Especially because the real solution just got even better:

Q: what is the 1st thing @ZohranKMamdani should do on the digital front now that he's #newyork major?

A: Exploit the release of ODF1.4 to make really open digital documents mandatory in the city administration, of course:

the real reason why Microsoft could establish and maintain an almost total monopoly on desktop computers for decades is NOT software licenses.

It's people ignoring OpenDocument. Now they have even less excuses to do it:

Grokipedia has just been released. A large language model generates entries, and the result is presented as a more "neutral" alternative to Wikipedia. But neutrality is not the central issue. What… | Walter Quattrociocchi | 16 comments Grokipedia has just been released. A large language model generates entries, and the result is presented as a more "neutral" alternative to Wikipedia. But neutrality is not the central issue. What matters is the structure that enables, shapes and legitimizes what we call knowledge. Two intertwined transformations are taking place. The first is infrastructural. Social media environments are evolving into ideologically coherent systems. They no longer merely contain echo chambers. They become them. These are what we define as echo platforms: ecosystems that reinforce belief rather than promote exposure, and that select not only content but worldviews. The second is epistemic. Language models are increasingly embedded into evaluative processes: moderation, ranking, recommendation, classification. They produce outputs that appear aligned with human judgment, but the underlying process is statistical, not normative. Coherence replaces verification. Fluency mimics understanding. This is the condition we term epistemia: the illusion of knowledge that emerges when plausibility substitutes reasoning. We explored both dimensions in two recent papers: "The Simulation of Judgment in LLMs" (PNAS, 2025) https://lnkd.in/d8YVan-C "Ideological Fragmentation of the Social Media Ecosystem" (PNAS Nexus, 2025) https://lnkd.in/dFd__uga What is at stake is not just the quality of information, but the very criteria by which it is produced, assessed and believed. This is not a technological shift. It is a cognitive one. | 16 comments on LinkedIn
