Just got off a plane in Australia, turned on my phone and see that the constant, slow slide into a dystopian dictatorship in the US continues unabated.

I at least thought we would’ve gotten one extremely loud, raw, vitriolic, classic album out of all this bullshit. Literally no one is going to write a song aimed at all the obscenities we see every day in the news? Just sticking to songs about the complications of love in your twenties then? Got it.

So many things I love about Australia but the main thing right now is that whole days go by without thinking about FuckFace. I am not sure I can adequately describe to Americans how blissful it is to go on with your day without a migraine induced by an all caps tweet about “LOSER” talk show hosts.

Have I ever told you guys that I love Melbourne? I have? Well I do. I love it. This city is in my bloodstream. Also, in my opinion, it’s the best food city in the world.

If I had read this when I was 15 years old, I would have died one of those mysterious sudden deaths where they never find out the cause, like in The Ring. “But how could all his blood just POUR OUT OF HIS EYES?!” my mother would sob, pounding on the kitchen table as a tenacious journalist looked on.

Back in the US, looking forward to the TMJ that goes with reading headlines like “Trump says school shootings wouldn’t happen if kids were armed” and then just having to go on with your day and buy lunch that comes in a plastic container with a plastic knife and fork individually wrapped in plastic.

Just finished the best book I’ve read this year. A collection of connected stories about the unique hellscape of our modern world, it is reminiscent of Todd Solondz style cruelty comedy. This isn’t “dark” humour - it’s a pitch black tunnel through the mind of the terminally online and totally alone.

Just watched “It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley”. So tragic that he left us so young, yet he left us with a piece of perfect art. His album Grace has spoken to me at so many moments in my life. Doesn’t matter how many great horror movies get made, doesn’t matter how many times they’ve saved the theatrical movie business since Covid…the genre still can’t get any respect. The “it’s not a horror movie” crowd is always there. This includes filmmakers who can’t admit they made a horror movie.

A few people on here have asked me about the new Deftones album and the film Weapons. The latter is truly great - I had that feeling that you get in a movie theatre when you don’t know where the rabbit hole is going. And the Deftones album crushes, hard to believe they’re still going this strong. 🤘🏻
