Was just trying to tidy the house yesterday when all of a sudden this Caroline Bird poem came on the slow down and then of course I was crying

The image is a digital graphic featuring a quote from Zack Carson's "Impossible Princess" on an orange background. The title, "ZACK CARSON FROM 'IMPOSSIBLE PRINCESS'", is prominently displayed in large black text at the top.

Below the title, a poignant quote reads: "If I could, I would boil my hands in flowers. Every song is dedicated to babies who came feet first; they look just like me." This quote is presented in smaller black text.

In the bottom-left corner, a simple line drawing depicts a hand reaching out to touch a bouquet of flowers. The flowers are illustrated with delicate lines and subtle details, adding a touch of elegance to the design.

On the right side of the image, the text "ballast 3.3" and "ballastjournal.com" are displayed in small black font, providing context and attribution for the quote.

Guide to Interpreting Dreams V
FRANCES KLEIN
You demand soup.
You crumple saltines over my bowl just the way I don't like it. At the magpie's rattle, you send me to tend to our child. Claws scratch my arms as I lift him from the cradle; I stoop for a kiss, and my mouth fills with beak. Outside, the sky is end-days yellow, and you answer each plea with a turned back. We have had the frogs and the hail. We have sprayed blood from the patio furniture, our bodies anointed with ointments for the lice and boils.
When the long darkness breaks, I know what comes next— but you hunch over your soup, unmoved. In the crib, silence where there should be song.

Several of my submissions will be turning one year old at the beginning of November, so I'm planning the party. For a theme, I'm thinking all the decorations will be In-Progress Blue.

Just a heads up, since I’m seeing this sub call going around again: don’t submit here. They published my work without my permission and have refused to acknowledge/respond to any contacts since.

A big part of being six is having so many feelings that you struggle to name or express, which is how I get things like:

“I don’t like when you laugh in my room! Never laugh in my room again!”
