To some of them, it feels as if their personal loyalty to Israel and its right to exist are under attack.

Clare King Lassman, the school’s director of fundraising and communications, is originally from Britain. She fell in love with Israel after multiple visits and decided to move here to raise a family 18 years ago. She abhors the war, but said that she also feels anguish when her progressive friends back home lash out at Israel as a genocidal state.

“Our beautiful country has become a pariah state,” she told me. “Sometimes I think it would be so much easier to be right-wing.”

Why then couldn't Boston City Council move to help keep #DailyTable open? Feds cut funds, City could have stepped in, but didn't. This seems performative without funding.

Our bike infrastructure on normal roads is, well, American. Some of the best in the country for biking to be fair, but American. Trails through parkland or following former rail lines end up as major bike routes because it's the safest route by far. For example: minutemanbikeway.org/home/about/

We don't have park rangers anymore because our state park budget spends their whole budget on, erm, maintaining a network of overbuilt arterial roads. Yes, that makes as little sense as it sounds.

That's... impressive. 🤣 I really don't understand how that's possible with a baseball cap.

I just tried this with a normal-small pocket .380 (unloaded) and no good. The hat isn't tight around my head at all, just sorta perched on the gun. You can carefully walk perfectly level, but I wouldn't rely on it. It also hurts. 😂 I suppose you could do it with a really tiny .22?

This is great news. They took some trial and error to get the exact shape right, but these are incredibly effective in Somerville. I've never seen anything so reliably get otherwise-reckless drivers to slow down.

Well, *I* don't ride on shared paths at those speeds, but many others do. My personal experiences witnessing it are probably an even split between road bikes and various electric things (bike shaped or otherwise).

Also, how the heck do you conceal a gun under a baseball cap? Wouldn't it be basically falling off your head? It sounds cartoonish, like 3 kids in a trench coat sneaking into a movie theater.

I went into this thinking that suing the bar is frivolous based on the headline, but no, this bears highlighting for those that skip the full article. They were already in trouble with the licensing board and failed to check for weapons as they were already required to due to past incidents.

Class 1 and 2 e-bikes max out at 20 mph. And even class 3s max out at 28 mph.

I can ride as fast or faster on my acoustic bicycle.

If we're going to talk about e-bikes I think it's important we base our discussions around facts.

This model isn't sold/marketed that way, but sketchy stuff on Amazon etc totally is. The sale of that stuff online needs to get cracked down on across the board. The whole "totally follow your local laws WINK WINK" disclaimer system does not work.

They do that with pedals attached too. I ride a class 2 with a VERY torquey motor. Great for cargo. 5/5 assist power and running the throttle are basically indistinguishable even when I weighed 300 pounds. Someone unlocked theirs as an experiment and broke 40MPH on a flat. Still has pedals!

06.10.2025 20:20 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Speed/weight are what concerns me. What is too much kinetic energy to be appropriate in a given situation? What is too fast to be appropriate for the often-undersized brakes? The pedals themselves are an arbitrary moral judgement about physical ability on what is really a tool for commuting.

MA blanket banned all ebikes from sidewalks, but there's zero speed restrictions for paved shared paths as long as you're riding the correct type of thing. It is NOT HARD to keep an ebike to sidewalk-appropriate speeds, the problem is when you don't. Just set the assist to the lowest power.

06.10.2025 20:00 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

This is why I really think regulations need to target speed instead of just overthinking vehicle definitions. There's nothing stopping you from reducing assist power on an ebike and slowing down when appropriate. I do it all the time. Some people are bad about this, just like with any other vehicle.

What I see often is that those people are frankly overconfident. There is no way to be safe at ~25MPH on a shared path punish passing children and dogs. They're one unpredictable dog away from disaster and they would not have any chance to avoid it, regardless of skill.

I think they all have a place in the bigger picture, but for those it's NOT the same place as a pedal ebike and regulations need to catch up to the diversity of vehicles that now exist.

Anyone in that crowd could have casually given those guys fatal head injuries and they'd never have even seen it coming. Wildly incompetent.

We're at the stage where they're burning down the house of a judge. I mean, I guess it'd be better to wait and see what's actually what, but is the FBI going to come out and say it was right wing terrorism?
