50 años después de la muerte de Franco, no hay nada que celebrar. Lo que debemos conmemorar es la democracia: la Ley para la Reforma Política, las primeras elecciones y la Constitución. La libertad no llegó sola.

The Eric Schickler essay in Larry Bartel's symposium on "What Trump Has Taught Us About Political Science" is one of the most insightful pieces I've read in 2025.
US institutions turned out to be weak, and we have to rethink conventional wisdom.

Not as much of an expert as some commenting on this, but I feel like the "welp, this is the end of online survey research" response is a bit defeatist. Provided that the recommendations made in this paper are followed (!!!), I think a transformation of how surveys are implemented is more likely.

With current technology, it is impossible to tell whether survey respondents are real or bots. Among other things, makes it easy for bad actors to manipulate outcomes. No good news here for the future of online-based survey research

In this article, I challenge claims of a generational rise of conservative men. In the media and recent academic publications, the so-called ‘youth gender gap’ has been interpreted as a generational phenomenon.

🎉 Very happy to team up with Andreu Paneque to develop this project funded by the Institut d’Estudis de l’Autogovern. We’ll study how federalism shapes the internal organization of political parties, the leaders they choose, and the issues they emphasize in their electoral platforms. Stay tuned! 📈 📊
06.11.2025 17:31 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Also, unlike previous parties that vanished once the territorial issue regained prominence (i.e., Plataforma per Catalunya), the distinct national appeals of both Vox and Aliança may allow them to endure even if the independence debate once again dominates Catalan politics.
05.11.2025 18:34 — 👍 1 🔁 1 💬 0 📌 0This is an early study, so all usual caveats apply. We will gain a clearer picture of the party and its voters in the coming months, particularly as new elections are held. Nonetheless, we expect the party to remain relevant as long as immigration stays high on the public agenda.
05.11.2025 18:34 — 👍 2 🔁 1 💬 1 📌 0Our findings show that disenchanted independentists do not drive Aliança’s growth. When we examine the former voters of mainstream Catalan parties, those who switch are primarily concerned about immigration, rather than independence.
05.11.2025 18:34 — 👍 2 🔁 1 💬 1 📌 0What is the key driver of support for both? Immigration.
But it’s national identity — whether one feels more Catalan or more Spanish — that decides which radical right party voters choose.
Catalonia is a unique case in Europe, with two radical right parties appealing to different nationalities. Both parties share views on the economy, immigration, and security. But they diverge on gender & LGBT rights, climate change, and especially, the territorial question.

@manuelwagner.bsky.social & I re-conceptualize class representation to take into account social mobility between classes and variation in how individuals enter politics.
Analysis of references between 1990 to 2024 shows that there is a decline in book referencing (52% to 28%) in polsci journals 😮
