Cultural Roots of Prejudice: Cultural Scripts and the Reactivation of Antisemitism in Germany | Perspectives on Politics | Cambridge Core Cultural Roots of Prejudice: Cultural Scripts and the Reactivation of Antisemitism in Germany

@wzb.bsky.social @socfub.bsky.social | Hier geht's zur Studie 🔽

Can culture help to explain prejudice? We (@maxschaub.bsky.social) explore this question by examining the rise of antisemitism during the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany.

Why did antisemitism rise in Germany during the Covid pandemic? And why was this increase concentrated among political centrists, rather than on the fringes?

We demonstrate our argument by documenting the cultural script of traditional antisemitism in canonical texts and in the minds of Germans. Using survey and experimental data, we show how it was activated among Christian believers during the pandemic.

It’s shocking to me the lack of response from the American population (elite & non-elite) to the craziness of the current administration. Protests against ICE are good, but at the same time Americans seem to be brushing off the imperial craziness of the regime and barely any public opposition.

This does have international ramifications too, as far-right parties abroad can claim that the term is not “extremist” because the U.S. government also uses it.

It was never about free speech.

It was always about protecting whiteness and its discursive power. If it were about speech, they wouldn’t ban the 1619 Project, books, and history itself, or punish those who remind us of the bigotry Charlie Kirk proudly espoused.

Some of us been tryna tell y’all.

The remarks weren’t “about Charlie Kirk,” they were about how this administration is using Kirk’s death as an excuse to shut down critics … and they responded by proving him completely correct.

Why copying the populist right isn’t going to save the left The long read: Social democratic parties have been losing ground for more than two decades – but pandering to rightwing anxieties about immigration is not the solution

From SIX years ago… insane that so many on the “center left” still don’t get the point. There is now so much solid empirical research available too.

We have had stable, professional, vouchsafed information about the physical & economic world for so long that we entirely take it for granted. It's going to be truly wild to operate in a world where quite literally no one knows for sure what is happening, where there is no fact of the matter.

Macht was Ihr wollt, aber denkt dran.
