Flaco Jiménez, 86, Grammy-Winning Master of the Tex-Mex Accordion, Dies
Fusing traditional Tejano sounds with blues, rock and country, he recorded with Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones and Ry Cooder.
"Mr. Jiménez played a style often characterized as norteño, Tejano or conjunto — though he preferred the term Tex-Mex because it captured the variety of influences that flowed through his music."

So sad to hear this, I used to read it to mine and like all the great so called ‘children’s literature’ it was always about so much more

So another version of Bernadette Devlin (with Malcom X). My previous versions of her were rapidly turning her into Ozzy Osbourne, which is fine I suppose if you are the godfather of Heavy Metal but less so if you are a social activist

You and me both, I’m still trying to work it out. That’s really kind of you, would definitely love one. You now realise you’re up there with the gods in my eyes now for having designed that? Here’s my email and we can maybe sort something out, thanks again lostcontrol@icloud.com

It’s like a country being dismantled in real time. The U.S. was never top of the pile when it came to human rights at any point in history but it’s rapidly heading for the bottom.

Cesar Chavez with a drawing of Victor Jara behind him. I seem to have annoyed a small corner of Miami with my drawings of people who were either tortured to death by U.S/ U.K supported right wing Juntas or spent their whole lives fighting for the disadvantaged. It’s a funny old world.

A drawing of Victor Jara for a piece to be submitted for an exhibition exploring the right to protest. Victor was a leading voice in the Chilean New Song movement. He was one of the many thousands tortured and murdered during the 1973 coup which was supported by the U.S. and U.K. governments

Aw man, thanks for posting. I saw that exhibition in the old Third Eye Centre just before I went to North Uist for the first time, so important, the book has hardly left my since, a bit battered now but sure aren’t we all. Did you see it in Stornaway?

I live in a small town on the east coast of Ireland which was so enamoured of Dwight D. Eisenhower that they named a pier after him. Dwight D. Eisenhower also authorised the murder Patrice Lumumba, the first democratically elected president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Justin Townes Earle "Graceland" (Paul Simon) live @ Hamburger Küchensessions
I still half remember a review of The Cure’s Foxy Lady and how it was described as reducing the song to it’s essential twitching skeleton and it just feels like Justin Townes Earle has done that too with Graceland. The bit that starts ‘she comes back and tells she’s gone..’ youtu.be/M5vbX6unfKU?...
