Yes it’s that lilt and rhythm. There’s a whole cultural thing built around it and it’s always women and in so many of the recordings the songs just descend into whoops and peels of laughter. This is a good one too although unfortunately it’s been ruined by colourisation youtu.be/bOIZC16Jtz8?...

Ah lovely and yes you’re right, there’s something so powerful about that process and songs like that being treasured and passed on. There was always a lovely sense of that from the liner notes on Dick’s records.
